I'll inject in here since many reasons for and against buying the game have gone around...
First off, I hate Activision...with a passion...they watered down Guitar Hero to the point that we weren't getting just one release every year...we were getting two, sometimes three...with very little changes to justify the 60 bucks...they are doing the same with Call of Duty now...I'll be shocked if we don't see at least two different CoD titles next year, by two developers that are NOT Infinity Ward...and even if, by the off chance, that what is left of Infinity Ward (which isn't much, by the way) does continue the Modern Warfare story arc, I see no way that game is anywhere near as good as the first two efforts were. Call it political, calli it moral...whatever...but I'm not going to give Activision sixty bucks when, by the actions they have taken over the last year with this franchise and with others, it is clear that making money is far more important to them than making good games.
Second, the last CoD game made by Treyarch left a really bad taste in my mouth. Instead of doing what IW did with MW2 (completely revamp the killstreak, perk and attachment systems) or even what IW did with COD4 (shift the game to a completely didn't era), Treyarch basically took COD4 (3 killstreaks, same perk system and still single attachments) and put a World War II era wrapper on it...which by the way had gotten incredibly overplayed by that point...the only innovations they gave us were vehicles (meh) and the Zombie coop mode (double 'are you fucking kidding me?' meh). While I don't think Treyarch is absolute shit ike imu does (I thought Quantum of Solace was a pretty fun shooter), there is a clear disparity between the talent at that studio versus what used to be Infinity Ward.
Finally, and these really are the biggest drivers of any of the reasons for me: time and money. Reach is still my go to game...it's left the tray in my Xbox twice since it came out...and I don't see that increasing any time soon...at least not with DLC on the horizon and more ranks to unlock. As I mentioned in another thread, I've already got a great Call of Duty game (two in fact) that I can go to when I want to scratch that itch that I get for the occasional more realistic shooter, but it's not an itch that comes around very often right now, so why would I shell out 60 bucks for something that, honestly, I will play very little, if at all, during the typical week?
So yes, I can appreciate what some of you guys are saying about how fun it is, and maybe I am being too picky, but damnit I'd like to see a little more innovation from the games I play before I'm going to drop sixty bucks on a title in a franchise once a year. Maybe I'll do like I did with COD4 and pick it up a year after everyone has played it and the party is damn near over, but I'm definately not planning on buying it any time soon.
