Two questions:
Can they update this thing to play 360 games?
Is it the same xbox live account across both platforms?
1.) No. Emulation would be near impossible and including actual 360 hardware would be too expensive. But you can play through your Xbox One via HDMI In.
2.) Yes. You can even be logged into the both at the same time.
Gonna disagree with you on the first question...I've heard various people make statements that have opened the door for backwards compatibility to be a possibility in the future (cloud computing makes pretty much anything possible these days...this is how Sony is saying PS3 backwards compatibility would/could work as well, if I recall correctly)...not saying it's a certainty or even probable to happen...but it's not anywhere near "impossible" technology wise...also, I think it's almost universally accepted that, while the idea of playing a 360 through the HDMI In is possible, the lag makes it a less than pleasant experience.
On the second question, I'm trying to use both a 360 and One at the same time to test this out, but yeah, the same account certainly works across both platforms. I know I've been getting kicked off one 360 if the girlfriend goes to watch something on another, so if the One and a 360 can coexist at the same time that's going to save me from getting a second Xbox Live account.
Streaming the backwards compatibility service is different, i agree that streaming BC will happen down the line. My point was that it's pretty much near impossible to have smoothly functioning B.C on the Xbox One itself. There isn't any 360 hardware in the One for straight hardware eumlation and software emulation would be troublesome, to say the least. Two different architectures.
Like you said, though, I could definitely see a streaming service down the line from M.S.
Also, I've read that the input lag for the HDMI in isn't bad at all.
