I really don't have it out for this guy, but I turned on the radio before Mully & Hanley and couldn't believe this gem: "I know there are college teams that could beat NBA teams."
Fred, the best college basketball teams I can ever remember had at most five future first-rounders and a few future stars. And even the worst teams in the league today consist entirely of All-Americans and European stars, from the starting five to the end of the bench.
Again, I'd like to hear another voice on this show, but this ain't it.
Could Fred name any?
No--I think he just made a stupid "passing" comment. What bothers about it is that it's just plain stupid to compare college athletes to professional athletes (at least in football and basketball).
The best college teams I can remember pale in comparison to NBA talent: Phi Slamma Jamma? Olajuwon was only a freshman and still developing when Drexler left, and they also never won any titles against "inferior" college opponents. That Duke team from 1999 with all the draft picks (Brand, Maggette, etc...) never won the title either. Even the best of all, 1990 UNLV (Stacey Augmon, Greg Anthony & Larry Johnson) would be shut down embarrassingly by any NBA defense.
