Not even close. I know for a fact that the Purdue women's team, who has been one of the top 10 women's basketball programs in the country, regularly practice against a squad of normal college students and the scrimmages between them are more competitive than their practices against each other. This team of men are people who could not even walk-on to the men's team.
If the Purdue women's team is indeed scrimmaging against "normal college guys", they are doing themselves a huge dis-service.
During my years at NIU, their women's team would scrimmage against guys too, but they were all well above average basketball players (All were quality H.S. players, most played at juco level/walk-on men's teams in college). In no way would they be considered "normal college guys" - I suspect that would be the case at Purdue as well. And neither NIU (back then - E.C. Hill days) nor Purdue's teams are as strong as Tennessee's. Which leads us back to the original question: UT vs. a high school boys team:
UT women would dominate a H.S. boys team on a regular basis....
I think you misunderstood "normal college guys". I meant that they were players who would not have been capable of walking on to the men's team. They were very good players at the campus gym. I'm sure they played high school basketball and some of them may have been pretty good but the fact is that if they had kept score that this team of men from the student body would have won.
For your knowledge, this practice was going on at a time when Purdue was in the midst of going to two final fours and winning one national championship. They were having a hard time handling a group of men who weren't even good enough to walk on to the team. They would have no shot against an actual college team.
Now the high school thing may be true, but it depends on what team you are talking about. If you are talking about Oak Hill academy or one of the top 20 teams in the country then they would lose.
No one on Memphis could have guarded Derrick Rose in high school. Kevin Love would have been unstoppable. I saw Eddy Curry in high school, and he would have been having a dunk contest.
If you want to say that UT would beat an average high school team then I won't argue. If you want to tell me that UT would win the Illinois state championship I would disagree.
