Obviously I'm not saying that the Lady Vols are going to take apart the Buckeyes night after night, BD.

But take Loyola as an example. They got run off the court in a midmajor conference. How far do they get in the women's NCAAs? A couple rounds, maybe?

But speaking of OSU, we would have taken Candace Parker for the men's team in a heartbeat when I was there. Granted, this was when Ayers held open tryouts to find enough walkons to field a team and the smell of gunpowder still lingered over Antonio Watson's tires...

So why is it that men and women don't compete directly?

Very, very badly. The lack of size, speed and power pushes the women all the way outside the 3 pt. line, if they could even get the ball across half court. Once there, with most women shooting(pushing up) jumpers from in front of their bodies, or just off the side & low guarantees a shit load of blocked shots.

This stupid argument is the essence of the Nort show....

Im absolutely positive I could bench press more than Candace Parker. Im pretty sure she would beat me in the high jump

Dont be an idiot. If Loyola were in the women's NCAA they would win every game by 20-30 points.

If the Purdue women's team is indeed scrimmaging against "normal college guys", they are doing themselves a huge dis-service.

During my years at NIU, their women's team would scrimmage against guys too, but they were all well above average basketball players (All were quality H.S. players, most played at juco level/walk-on men's teams in college). In no way would they be considered "normal college guys" - I suspect that would be the case at Purdue as well. And neither NIU (back then - E.C. Hill days) nor Purdue's teams are as strong as Tennessee's. Which leads us back to the original question: UT vs. a high school boys team:

UT women would dominate a H.S. boys team on a regular basis....

Since you're only allowing the use of UT's women's team then I guess it would be fair to say we could use a top ranked boy's basketball team that has a McDonalds All-American player that will play 1 year in college, take his team to the elite 8 in men's college basketball, and then go to the NBA. UT has no shot at stopping somebody like that. I've seen the women play and I know people always talk about how fundamentally sound they are and all that bullshit....but honestly I don't see it. Compared to the men's game, I see bad ball handling (there's a joke there but I'll leave it alone), weak passing, poor shooting skills and much much much slower play in general. It's a simple matter of physical size and strength. The women are just overmatched.

I'm not "allowing" anything - the question was asked (after their championship last night) how would UT fare vs. a high school boys team? Against the typical boys team, I believe UT would fare very well. Against an all-star AAU team of HS boys, the situation might be different. But then that's changing the scenario, isn't it?

I think you misunderstood "normal college guys". I meant that they were players who would not have been capable of walking on to the men's team. They were very good players at the campus gym. I'm sure they played high school basketball and some of them may have been pretty good but the fact is that if they had kept score that this team of men from the student body would have won.

For your knowledge, this practice was going on at a time when Purdue was in the midst of going to two final fours and winning one national championship. They were having a hard time handling a group of men who weren't even good enough to walk on to the team. They would have no shot against an actual college team.

Now the high school thing may be true, but it depends on what team you are talking about. If you are talking about Oak Hill academy or one of the top 20 teams in the country then they would lose.

No one on Memphis could have guarded Derrick Rose in high school. Kevin Love would have been unstoppable. I saw Eddy Curry in high school, and he would have been having a dunk contest.

If you want to say that UT would beat an average high school team then I won't argue. If you want to tell me that UT would win the Illinois state championship I would disagree.

I didn't say and all-star team. I said a top team with 1 all-american. And what's a "typical" boys team? I'm not quite sure any national champion college women's team would brag about being able to beat average high school boys. I'm sure we can get together a group of guys on this board that can beat an average high school boy's team.

I'm guessing that the board members here could put together a team that could beat an average high school team. That's not really saying much. An average high school team isn't that good as compared to a team of 20+ year old people. That's why you have to make a comparison to the good high school basketball teams.

But how would the Mike North-assistant-coached Notre Dame High School team do against the Tennessee women?

"I'm tinkin' . . . da Dons, tree hunnerd an' fifty-six . . . da Lady Vols, two."

No chance - UT women would beat Simeon 100 out of 100 times.

I used to live in Knoxville. Every year, Pat Summitt would audition male college students who wanted to "walk on" to be the practice team that practiced against the Lady Vols. (I haven't lived there for 10 years so don't know if she still does this). The guys they selected were mostly high school hoops players, but not stars by any means. They were all comparably sized to the women...no guy over 6-3 and most (not all) had white man's disease. Most were average high school players from average programs. They played the Lady Vols pretty even in practice, which is why she picked the males she did. Every year there were young men that tried out for this team who had been very good high school players. They weren't selected because they were too good. A good high school team like Simeon, with size and hops, would kill the Lady VOls. The other thing is that Pat Summitt herself has been asked this question about her practice squad and she has admitted it several times that the girls would lose to a top boys high school team.

Here's what I notice today. When a guest is being interviewed only Mike gets to ask the questions. I can understant Mike asking MOST of the questions, but why have Fred on if he can't even get one question or thought in?

What does this have to do with women's basketball?

I re-read that hijack and it's actually pretty funny how opposite the opinions ranged on the topic.

You've got some guys who think that:

1. UT women would beat many Men's Division I programs

2. Candace Parker MIGHT be able to start for the Bulls

3. The Lady Vols would not beat the OSU Men's program every single night (but would win some games).

4. Parker could have played on some of the OSU Men's teams of year's past.

5. Loyola Men's Basketball would be lucky to win "a couple rounds" in the Women's tourney

VS.

1. A decent boys H.S. team would beat the Lady Vols
2. The best players on this board would beat the Lady Vols (inference from various posts).

I find this contrast of opinions pretty funny.

This has been the pattern since Day One - Annie never got to talk neither.

I’ll listen to Mike and Mike for a few minutes for the hopes of getting a national perspective on a local team, but these guys are suckiest bunch of sucks who ever sucked.

You’re fat. You’re effeminate! I agree with A. Oh yeah, well I agree with B. That’s the Mike and Mike show. So fucking lame. Greeny milking a cow. Sheets of integrity. Duel. Guiding light. Who cares? And those bits or skits by Juakim (spelling?). Not even remotely funny.

I once heard David Robinson do an impersonation of Avery Johnson and Mike and Mike nearly wet their panties (with urine but I suspect that their vaginas were moist for other reasons). It’s only funny when you do an impersonation that’s out of the ordinary, not what a guy actually says in practice or during the game.

I hate those guys with a fucking passion.
