[4. To nostradamus.....I hope you realize what you're doing by posting internal memos on these boards.[/quote]

Please - Rock - now you're only encouraging me!
And as you can tell by my moniker - I don't post these memos After they're written - I post them Before they're written. It's like a bad case of I Predict!

Yeah, I really hate talking about college football, the bowl season, the end of the NFL season and the NFL playoffs. It's a total wasteland.

As far as doing sports radio in these months, well, after listening for 15 years, I can say that both stations empty the benches during the Christmas season. I have never understood why this happens, as I love listening while doing Christmas errands.

MNMS is all topics, and whatever we feel like bringing up...we're not confined by any script/rules/etc. that we have to follow.

God damnit Rock, THIS IS THE POINT. You are trying to serve steak at a vegetarian restaurant.

I was really pleased to read that Debra Pickett interview in the Sun Times a few months ago. Mike not only acknowleged the flaw of the general topic format but he pledged to change. Ratings went up, Tranny shut her pie hole and the show seemed to be on it's way back. The last 3-4 months have seen a painfull return.

I know you do not determine the show's format, but please, please, please tell mike that north+sports talk= success.

Yeah, Good Dolphin, I let this comment slide the other day, but this may be one of the stupidest all-time things ever said in sports radio. (Other than, of course, "Mike, we'd like you to do the morning show and branch out into other areas.")

In addition to all the football topics you mentioned, Feb. and March bring the end of the college basketball season and the NCAA tournament as well as everyone's first look at the baseball teams in spring training. I'm tired of all the "Oh, there's nothing to talk about" stuff. Funny, during those months, all the papers manage to put out a sports section, sports columists continue to write their columns, ESPN continues to run shows like Around the Horn and Pardon the Interruption. How come they manage to have stuff to talk about?

If I was Rock I wouldn't have any balls! I think Mac is gutsy when he makes posts on here, but with tenure in the city I guess he can say what he wants. I'd be to leery to probably even post onhere if I worked for one of the stations myself.

Sorry to beat a dead horse (pun intended) but I just read Rock's post again and I think I Sh*t myself.

He said "its good radio from his vantage point".

What the hell is he gonna say? "Mike's stupid and ignorant as usual."

And how the hell can the morale be so high when the station's BIG SHOW cant beat a national show on AM 1000?

Hey Rock. They're in Bristol or as Mike would say "they're down there in Bristol".

You guys are in Chicago.

How embarassing. You guys should not only be ashamed, you should all be FIRED.

If BUCK posted I'd say "what do ya think hes gonna say for his $75,000" ... but this is ROCK defending the show - the lowest paid guy defending his "under $25,000" - WTF? Rock - somebody needs to tell you when to fish or when to cut bait. "Go To The Johnny B Showgram" out!

I can understand why Rock would not come on here and say "the MNMS sucks and morale is so low!" But why should he come on here and lie?

I'm sure Rock is a good guy and I have nothing against him, but it doesn't do him any good to come here and offer his spin. It would just be better if he didn't post that stuff at all.

Unfortunately, I think Rock believes what he says. The shitfest is getting worse and no one on the show has enough brains to realize it. When people go on MJH to point out how little this dumbass show knows about sports, you know you are the laughingstock of the industry. North blows and he just doesn't care. He's a lazy dick and thinks his rep will carry him. Too bad but he is totally over the hill, past his prime, hasbeen, jumped the shark, -hell, what ever term you want to use, the fact remains that there is NO chance of turning around this rapidly sinking ship.
HOW THE HELL CAN THE SPORTS GOD ASK A VP OF THE ATLANTA HAWKS, DOMINIQUE WILKENS, IF HE KEEPS IN TOUCH WITH THE TEAM AND IF HE EVER WOULD LIKE TO REJOIN THE TEAM IN SOME FRONT OFFICE CAPACITY?????? Even Dominique had to correct the asshole. Yep, he sure knows sports.
Fuckoff North and get off the air now.

What kind of station management allows this to happen? Shouldn't someone, whether it be the talent (who is ultimately responsible) or the talent's support staff be disciplined for being unprepared and making the station as a whole look bad? (I would like to apologize to the word talent and all those who have it for associating it with Mike North.)

How many things have North's smile and palms upturned pose gotten him out of in his life? "What? I didn't know no betta, buddy. Cut me some swack."

Ok, so I also did not know that Wilkins worked in the front office for the Hawks. But I'm not the one with a sports radio show though!

Enjoy it, Rock. Probably SCR's last winter book as an English-language station.

What is the clause in the Sox contract regarding a format change? Shift them to CKG? Maybe BBM?

I wish I knew what the hell you were trying to say here. I think you "do sports radio in the months of Dec/Jan/Feb/March" because there are numerous sports stories during those months, and because you aren't going to do seasonal format changes.

Rock wrote:

Could it be any worse than that piece-of-shit program you're working on?

No, you took a dump. Every morning. Same shit.

You should ultimately worry about your own program first and foremost. Give us the best product you possibly can, then worry about the other programs.

Hey, at least he got the last part right. Nothing. That's exactly what they've done to improve this POS program. Nothing.

Seems to me you've had a lot of poor books. And your boss (North) has had an even longer string of poor books.

Rock wrote:

Conning sponsors into doing "Bookie Priest" commercials doesn't count as publicity and airtime. Also, just because the teams are doing well doesn't mean your program is. There's not a direct correlation. If the teams provide great material, yet the program blows, why wouldn't people turn to MVP or another outlet instead?

Rock wrote:
I think we've done some good radio in the last couple of weeks.
No, you haven't. What do you consider to be "some good radio?"

Rock wrote:

NEVER mention the hall of fame in the same breath as this show. "Been good radio?" What are you listening to? Obviously not what we're hearing.

Give it up. Blame it on the lack of sports. Blame it on the lack of billboards. Blame it on not having a remote in Wrigley. Blame it on promoting XRT. The blame never falls on Mike North, Anne, Fred, the production staff...I suppose next the blame will fall on the janitor for not stocking enough toilet paper in the bathroom. "Went into da badroom, an there wasn't any toy-led pay-pah. I had to run 'round an' find Mitch's tie to wipe my hands for three weeks. That's why we don't have time to pre-pah for da show."

Rock wrote:
Baseball is back in swing, and with that the sports climate in Chicago only gets hotter. We've added AJ/Cooper and welcoming back Dempster for his weekly hit on the show. We've added Barry Rozner who never runs out of things to say. Steve Stone is back again, another big hit for the station.

So the Mike North Morning Show is incapable of attracting and entertaining listeners without AJ/Cooper, Ryan, Rozner, and Stone?

Rock wrote:
The Bookie Priest is a big bit (whether you guys like it or not).

Exactly how is this a "big hit?" Do you have Arbitron numbers for the 9:15-9:17 slot? It is a worn-out bit, which has lost any and all humor. Don't let this be the basis of the show.

Rock wrote:
We're constantly bringing new ideas to the table,

I can picture the brainstorming session now.

North: Da Bookie Priest is good. We godda keep it up.
Rock: But Mike, the people on the board hate it. They say it is old and worn out.
North: What else can we do?
Fred: I can do more movie reviews...
North: Dat's great.
Rock: We can book Stone one more time...
North: Dat's great.
Anne: We can talk to the Little Guys once a week about home entertainment centers.
North: Dat's good, too.
Buck: We can do a new game, like the Real Estate Game. But instead, we'll call it the Property Game.
North: Oh, dat's good.
Rock: The Arbitron numbers are in for the 9:15-9:17 Bookie Priest. Looks like we have one new listener!
North: Ah, dat's da thing right dare. Let's do anudda Bookie Priest at 9:45.

See, Rock, you keep recycling the same crap. You become too dependent upon Bookie Priest and other bits, and they become worn-out quickly. There's nothing fresh, nothing new.

Rock wrote:

You're getting new hosts and producers for the mornings? Just temporarily, I assume, because I'm sure the Spanish-AC format will soon be in place.

I would like to hereby nominate C_Howitt's post as post of the year 2006.

Talk about methodically picking apart Rock's post....jeez! Great job pointing out the myriad of things wrong with his response.

After reading the post, my biggest question is would the bosses in NYC really pull the plug on sports talk to go Spanish language broadcasting? I'm sure it's a cheaper alternative than what's on 670AM right now, with a bigger upside financially.

Also, considering the sinking ship WCKG is as well, maybe a consolidation of the WCKG/WSCR talent? North replaces Rover in morning drive? Bernstein becomes Bulls pre/post guy along with having a shift (with or without TB)?
