Wow, awesome work. That's 4 hours of hell and dedication to get that done. After reading that it gave me a new idea that would work very well with North's show. Your notes show how much time was dedicated to NON SPORTS TALK. I'm thinking that we could listen to a show and time stamp segments by category to see how many minutes in a given show are dedicated to talking sports compared to: North having sex with Bebe, Local politics, any politics, movie reviews, updates, commercial reads, etc. I'd bet that there is less than 8 minutes of actual sports talk going on in that show in a given hour. I'd also be willing to do the 8-10 portion of the show if you or someone else would do 6-8. I just couldn't listen to that show for more than 2 hours and that's even a stretch.

hawkeye,

I had a similar thought when I used to listen regularly and we were being deluged by "Mike North talks sports" commercials. In fact, I even thought of an easy way to do it.

If I can get my chess clock back from my son all I'd have to do is hit the 1st clock button when the show starts & then the 2nd clock when they finally get around to anything sports related. Then back to the 1st clock once the body function of the day discussions starts and by the end of the show one clock would show total sports talk time & the other would show everything else.

Wow, I haven't listened to North in about 8 months, and that's just pathetic. B&B may be silly, weird, arrogant, old, etc, but at least they've had no trouble finding topics to discuss during the so-called doldrums.

Someone should email these minutes to Mitch, along with side-by-side comparisons of this show vs. MJH or B&B, and then put the ratings side-by-side as well, and then see if he makes the correlation, or if it's still reasonable to blame it on the billboards and the flawed ratings systems for the Mike "Wes Mantooth" North Morning Show.

Nope I did it all "on the fly". In fact I didn't even decide to do it until I was browsing here about 5 minutes before show time :-)

Rock, did you not read the posts above or any of the ones I did on Murph? The point is to show how dependent North and Murph are on these lame ass sounds to get them through the show. Not only are they lame and overused, but they're not funny and take away from any reputable nature of the shows and take time from ACTUAL SPORTS TALK which is what we're supposed to be listening to. Don't I hear 10 spots an hour telling me that "Mike North Talks SPORTS"???

How about actually talking sports instead of all the lame non-sports segments (real estate game, battle of the bands, etc) and depending on stupid noises to get you through the show. It would be different if they were relevant or funny (I don't have time for lunch). That's the point of this. Now can you please address any of the above points I made or are you going to glaze over it and come up with some non-specific answer that makes North out to be a great host?

Of course you wouldn't get it Rock. It's a log showing how much your show blows. I really enjoyed Mike and Knuckles discussing flatulence the other day. Riveting radio! Really, don't change a thing. Since you don't seem to get it, or you just don't care, get back to Pappy. His cock is getting cold.

Exactly. Rock, why do you even come here and spend time reading and replying to posts like this if you're not going to contribute anything. You apparently think everything is perfect on the show so why are you here? Why do you refuse to address some of the points made? Nut up and have an opinion. Don't be Fred.

You are right Rock. Lets talk about more important things. Lets all discuss how Mike would be the number one mourning show if the rating system wasn't flawed and Pappy had a billboard overlooking the Kennedy and the Dan Ryan. It has to be these two things that are holding Pappy back. I'm sure he has convinced you of that.

My God, do you guys have any idea how bad the show is. I know you have to blindly defend him but in your heart you must know the show sucks.

Anyone who thinks that show sounds good definitly DOESN'T belong in radio.

This show wouldn't be number one in a one station market!!
Rock, your ability to think this is a respectable show is laughable, almost as ridiculous as the show itself. BTW, before you say we are all listening to this crap, be aware that most of us have long ago stopped listening to crappy Pappy. Obviously you are a big part of the problem if you think this is good radio.

I noticed this morning that this pattern repeated itself. Anne read a story on rental car companies having trouble with renters running up toll violations. North comes up with this lame joke, "I guess I can see the people who rent from Alamo blowing through the booths".

There was dead silence from Ann. If I had to guess she was probably checking her copy and had tuned him out. So North repeats this stupid joke word for word and she laughs.

He must signal her somehow, probably with a kick in the leg.

If after seeing a printed list of the drops used, Rockmeister needs to realize that they are OVERUSED. I no longer listen to the show, partly due to the fact that it seemed there was a drop every 30 seconds. If I had a nickel for everytime I heard the Homer Simpson "g_a_y" sounder, I could buy out North's contract.

Unlike some people on this board, I think Rock is talented, but he abuses his audio vault. Ever heard the old saying "less is more?"

The engineers should rig the audio vault so that Rock can only use "x" amount of drops per hour, or it crashes. My guess is he'd have to reboot before the :20 update.

Rock probrally just randomly hits the sound board for the drops. From what I hear the drops don't even apply to the dumb conversation Pappy is happy. Since we never hear this on the show from the two cohosts Rock should make drops that say

"you are wrong pappy" (rock you could play this alot and it would apply every time)

"that is stupid pappy"

"that is wrong and stupid pappy" (this one will cover it all)

You know, if they actually did that it could be pretty funny...until they overuse the hell out of it like they did with bookie priest.

i don't listen to the score much but when i do i hear this crap on all the shows. all of these annoying sound "drops" solidly position the score as a college radio station run by kids. maybe when the children grow up, they will realize that real radio pros don't do this junk except very selectively. the kids and the drunks on the board at the score apparently think it's cute, but the listeners seem to be voting to not listen to this silly ass stupidity.

Your post just made me think of MJH, Chicago's leading sports talk show. Rarely do I ever year the annoying and childish drops on the show and that's part of what makes it so good. It always seems very well produced and thought out and doesn't include all the extra crap, just good sports talk.

Coast, on the last ratings book, both stations did a 1.8, a tie.

Coast, on the last ratings book, both stations did a 1.8, a tie.

They both suck. We deserve better and I'm afraid we SOL.

yep. espn has its issues too. Just not this one. It should be pretty embarassing to both of them that they do a 1.8, but they're not. hell they each tout themselves when they win a book and claim the title of tallest midget.

All of that is good radio! In the 80's when I was in High School listening to "Animal Stories" with Larry Lujack on WLS.

Are they trying to make Mike North LArry Lujack????

And Rock....you once again prove what an immature loser you and that dumbass childish show are. You know damn well you check this bored daily. You dream about this board. And you dont have the NUTS to use some of the criticisms to your shows benefit. Remember...CHANGE IS GOOD YOU F-U-C-K-'N MORON!

You're G-A-Y and I wish death to you and North.

You know...like the show already is!

This morning during Fred's 9:30 update the brilliant production staff seemingly played every drop they have. Of course there was no rhyme or reason behind it. It almost sounded like a blatant "f*ck you" to this board. It sounded so childish and unprofessional. Of course Fred didn't miss a beat, even though you couldn't hear a thing he was saying. Are you jackoffs 12 years old or what? Why does Mitch allow this? It is NOT funny and it's supremely irritating. Someone here likened it to college radio. That's an insult to college radio. These fucking morons have the maturity level of middle schoolers. No wonder they're circling the drain in the ratings. Keep doing it YOUR way guys, because it's so successful. FUCKING PUDS!!
