1) Urlacher was the biggest reason the Bears sucked at the cover 2 Defense last year.
2) Cover 2 put a huge burden of responsibility on the middle linebacker being able to drop back into covereage...and he was bad at it last year.
3) He missed more tackles than anyone on the Bears last year, and he was tentative with all of his neck problems and all.
4) I would dump Urlacher before he is finished while we can get something for him, then move Briggs to ML.
1a) Except for the safeties and cornerbacks and the defensive line generally being attrocious at pass rushing, then yes he was the top reason.
2a) One year vs. a career does not a scientific sampling make ... plus he's apparently on the gas again so that should help.
3a) What's the ratio of missed tackles to made tackles to attempted tackles? And you have no idea if he was tentative or not - you are not him and thus can't know what he's thinking. Stick to facts, not unfounded and unverifiable suppositions.
4a) A dopey statement given its general nature. Not going to "dump him" because that costs cap money ... and you're not going to get a dog's dick in trade for him because
nobody ever gets value back in a trade in the NFL - for whatever reason, it just doesn't happen. Oh, and btw, let's just shitcan Lance as our only real dangerous player within 5 yards from scrimmage and put him in a position where he backpedals away from his strengths all day.
