I was right. They delayed the Hawks game to do a long post game.

Why they didn't race this thing at 5:30 is made no sense.

It's easier to deal with 25,000 people delayed than 90,000 people changing plans, I guess. Also, this is game 2. The Belmont is game 7, sort of.

American Pharoah is a great horse. I'm not stunned that he won the way he did. I am a little surprised that Frosted ran second. I may have underestimated him.

Everyone has opinions. That's why they run the races. My opinions hold up just fine over the long haul.

I'm telling you why I didn't bet him at 3/5 and I told you that before the race. And the next time there's a similar situation, I'll bet against that horse too. Over time, I'm gonna come out in front. I'm confident in that.

I will grant you that American Pharoah is a better horse than I gave him credit for being. I thought he could win the race, but I didn't expect him to roll 12 furlongs that fast and just bury that field.

This is kind of surprising isn't it?

American Pharoah owner Ahmed Zayat plans for his Triple Crown-winning horse to run again in 2015.

Pharoah, which won horse racing’s first Triple Crown since 1978, has already been sold to Coolmore Ashford Stud for breeding purposes. But Zayat says the breeder has “zero say” in what happens to the horse until it retires.

Zayat will let trainer Bob Baffert construct a schedule for Pharoah to figure out when the horse is ready to run again. The Breeders’ Cup Classic in October could be a potential target, with its $5 million in prize money looming large. Zayat has an expensive insurance policy that would protect him should anything happen to Pharoah before it can start breeding.

Supposedly, Zayat has no financial motivation in the matter, he just wants to watch his majestic beast race one more time:

“We are not thinking here of value or money,’’ he said. “When the horse is ready, we will not be scared of running him to lose or not. It’s all about the fans and this belongs to history.’’

Surely, the horse would rather be having sex.

Tapit is the sire of 448 winners, including 57 stakes winners, 33 graded winners, and four champions, from seven crops racing. From 783 foals of racing age, his 608 starters have amassed $66,772,350 in earnings.

Tapit was America's leading yearling sire for the second year in a row with an average of $628,289.

I would guess they start him out around $100,000.

The commercial breeding industry is a very fickle business. The shine can fall off a stallion very quickly. You get a bunch of trainers sitting around the bar at Griffin Gate and one guy asks another, "How do you like your American Pharoah?" The guy answers, "He's okay, he's just a horse." Next thing you know ten trainers are in the conversation and they all agree that these horses aren't so special. Now his first crop hits the track and they do okay, but there's only one or two graded stakes winners. All of a sudden he's a disappointment. Next breeding season he isn't getting the black-type mares and it's like a ball rolling downhill. His stud fee gets reduced and there's the new flavor of the moment. It's tough for him to get those top mares back.

What he has going for him though is that Ashford has a whole lot invested in him. They're going to do whatever is possible to make him as a stallion. American Pharoah has really established Pioneerof The Nile, so they can take some of the mares that had gone to Pioneer and send them to AP's court.

Also, AP hails from an important sire line. His paternal grandsire, Unbridled was a true classic horse that provided real stamina to a pedigree. Unfortunately, Unbridled died prematurely at, I think, 11 years old, leaving only eight foal crops. Unbridled's premium son is Empire Maker who was exported to Japan. That leaves Pioneerof The Nile and his son, American Pharoah as the top extenders of the Unbridled line.

What was the jockey for Keen Ice doing during the last half a mile? Pretty crappy job by Desormeaux. Keen Ice was only about 3 lengths off A.P. on the far turn and then the jockey let another horse get inside him, which forced him to travel more distance around the bend at a bad angle. If you watch the horse, he actually closed on Pharoah in the last 1/4 mile or so. Had the jockey kept Keen Ice on the pace, when the horse had the kick in the end, he should have come in at least second, but instead had to come from behind to get third.
