Do I think anyone said "Promote the Sox", nope.

Do I think it was made clear that the Sox are a business partner and more positive things need to be said on the radio, yes!

Today Mulligan promoting attendance. With a 'This team is playing too well for that small of a crowd"

I just dont think it is the Sports yawkers job to keep tellign the fans of chicago how great it is at comiskular. I am sure if you are a chicago sports fan, you have been to the cell and dont need Mully or anyone else to tell us to go out there.

It's understandable, but that doesn't make it any less shameless.

Did ESPN 1000 do that when they had the Sox?

Now let's go through all the reasons why people don't go to watch the White Sox

- Can't justify the expense
- Lives are too busy
- Its too cold out
- Its too hot out
- Too many drunks at the ballpark
- Too drunk to make it to the ballpark
- Prefer to watch it on TV
- Baseball is boring in person
- Afraid of being mugged outside the ballpark
- Afraid of being mugged inside the ballpark

Have I covered them all?

Mully really said that?

After two days where the temp was around 35-40?

What an asshole

Oh and Hanley this morning on how No one rips Ventura

Hanley: Everybody loves Robin. Like the TV show. Everybody Loves Raymond...Everybody Loves Robin

Unfortunate listeners: Ya...ya...we got it

Well, I'm not sure how popular that other team is. The Sox sold out opening day. One of your fellow Cubs fans is suggesting the "popular" team won't sell out theirs.

Next you are going to tell me that the constant apperances by Northwestern coaches and administrators is not a directive from management!

It's pretty shameless, but people probably should go to more games so I get it.

I think the Sun-Times is getting in on that act. Two full page articles on the hiring of Chris Collins to lead a basketball program that has never been the slightest bit relevant.

Now check out the resume of the Sun-Times chairman:

The architecture isn't elaborate enough
People hate the owner for being Jewish

Now you've covered them all. And now you can take a job in Atlanta!

Wouldn't hosts urging you to go to the park be similar to them telling you to listen to B&B at 1, or Holmes at 6, and so on? It just seems like standard pro-company talk. That doesn't mean we have to like it, but I am wondering if it's just ordinary business/sales practice.

Northwestern Wildcats Text Line

1-800-GO PURPLE

but they still dont beg people to go to Ryan Field.

If i was NU, I would try and build a dome! Similar to Lucas Oil. Not sure if they have the space, so close to residents houses would be an issue.

OR

Start looking for that huge land site between Chicago and Evanston for the new Bears Staidum when Pat Ryan Jr buys the Bears! MY GUY!

There is a difference in just promoting the event itself.

Talking about the good time you had doing things at the park, is a sales job in itself. This is why I thinki the Sox announcers are just terrible. They all dislike each other and have nothing to say positive.

Now, telling people to go, almost complaining is not the key.

"IF" they gave me the job for a year, as an example, I would have Stone and Hawk eating in the booth from one of the food stands, show the food. Get some video of Stone throwing in the fundamentals.

That would actually Promote the park without telling fans they are the reason for not getting free agents and it might even improve the communication between Jerrys buddies who dislike each other.

Pretty soon this formula will be needed with the Jim Deshais lack of though-0-thon!

It would if the Score didn't, whenever called on it, swear up and down that they have no relationship with the White Sox beyond carrying their games and that their regular programming has complete editorial independence from the White Sox. Thus, we are to believe that either the various Score personalities have independently arrived at the conclusion that White Sox attendance is mandatory and we must put aside our hatred of driving, parking, blacks, and Jews to spend money we may not have, or that someone is telling the hosts to say something about getting people to the games and that their purported editorial independence is a load of shit. So which is it?

Now if they told us to listen to B&B in a way that is similar to how they tell us to go to Comiskey, now that's A Thing!

Eliminating one of the stupidest stadium rules in baseball would help. Can't let the peasants in the upper deck mingle with the slightly wealthier peasants.

Hmm..it seems sort of similar to the conflicts interest that characterize ESPN's business and journalistic divisions, albeit on a much smaller scale. I can't help but think they're encouraged to talk up the park.

I think thats a very underrated reason why they have issues

I cant tell you how many times I was invited to Sox games with the pitch "Well just buy the 8$ seats and hang out on the concourse"

Sorry, JerrBear, but watching at home on tv is just way better than that Upper deck.

I almost never sit in my seats. If they had a standing room season ticket on the 100 level at say, $20-25 a game, I'd buy the whole season instead of the 30 or so I buy now. But they probably wouldn't do something like that when they have so many empty seats.

I do think the whole "different levels" thing hurts a team like the Sox, who- even though it isn't really true- likes to promotes themselves as a "blue collar team, Chicago tough". Then you treat the guy on the concourse like a fucking criminal and shut off his beer early while the CEO in the skybox can drink Scotch and sodas until after the last pitch.

The best part of being in a box is drinking the booze until the whole park is empty and the staff has to finally kick you out after several warnings.

Agree 100% with this. Walking the concourse and watching the action from different aspects is great.

I think the Ligue thing is part of the reason WSOX have done some of the things you are complaining about. WSOX kind of screwed themselves. They didn't have enough security. Stuff happens. WSOX overreact. Now nothing happens partially because of what is upsetting you.
