Id rather they take flyers on young prospects who they can determine will be any good once the team is good again. We know what Stroman is.

 You hate him cause he's a militant black. This is where I can separate sports from politics and you can't.

That deal is pretty good for this team. They need depth at SP and a 3-year deal for this price is fine. He definitely improves the rotation and I love that he is a ground ball pitcher. He has some upside if he can stay healthy.

I am with with it at that cost and years. They had to add pitching. They need at least one more starter. Hendricks, Stroman, Nas, Azolay/Steele? and ?

Maybe, but that says more about the market than Stroman. One 8th place finish in Cy Young in his career and one All-star appearance. Sorry if I expect more from an ace.

I don't know why you are so hung up on the Cubs signing an ace. An ace is wasted on this team, they need warm bodies who can maybe keep them in games. The team was gutted last year. This isn't the time to invest big money long term in an ace.

I can live with Stroman at 3/71. 3.63 career era for a starter is impressive. If he is the only big money move this year he won't mean much. Have to see who else they sign. I'd like to see Correa long term, or Bryant mid.long, Rodon short (pipedream guys). Then, they also have to hit big-time on some prospects.

I'd say it feels like sex but I want to put it in terms you would understand

It's not a long deal, but there will be better clearance aisle options. I would love to get a lockdown #1 starter, but I have no interest in paying $50M a year for anyone.

Adbert Alzolay is going to develop into one according to Cubbie fans

I wanted Scherzer 7 years ago; the Cubs took Lester, who was cheaper. I wanted Scherzer now; the Cubs took Stroman, who was cheaper. I'm always told "why do you care what Ricketts spends...it's not your money." Well, if that's the case, let's see the Cubs be a top 5 payroll every year. I have no interest in going through another Plan. Is Stroman the new Edwin Jackson?

well i think the purge last summer makes is pretty clear there is going to be another Plan, so you may want to prepare yourself for a few lean years. Signing some starting pitching depth in the meantime can maybe keep the team somewhat competitive while some of the new youth in the system develops. There aren't going to be any splashy signings until they know what they have in some of these prospects. Could Stroman be horrible like Jackson was? Sure, but the ship sailed for this team last summer at the deadline and now guys like Miley and Stroman are relatively low-risk stopgaps the team needs to fill out a rotation.

I think part of the problem is the Dodgers, who have built the right way and spent the right money but only have 1 WS and that in a strike year. You do all the right moves, pay the right money, get all the bites at the apple, and you're the Bills of MLB.

Yeah, it's crazy to think the Dodgers had Kershaw, Bauer, Buehler, Urias, and then when that wasn't enough, added Scherzer (and Trea). Will be interesting to see what they do now. They probably have to re-sign Kershaw and hope for the best.

I don't think they will. The guy is emblematic of the team. Might as well be the mascot at this point...

Look at the Braves of the 90s and 2000s; lot of homegrown talent with veteran additions to fill in the holes. Only one World Series title from all those playoff appearances.
