i know, i know. another bradley thread. but this is a bit intriguing because i wanted to hear from other cubs players who were black and what they got compared to what bradley was saying. interesting that i never hear anything from derek lee about it--and he is nowhere to be found in this article. and why i find that interesting is the last line of the article - "It will depend on whether an individual less controversial than Bradley says the same thing about Wrigleyville in the future." Derek Lee is less controversial than Bradley...I know he's said things about booing but I can't remember if he's said that it was racially charged.

Billy Williams is interviewed in the article. He said that he got hate mail. *Every* black player got hatemail back then. That is not the same thing as what Bradley is saying. This isn't 1961.

The author uses examples comparatively with Hawkins, Jacque Jones, and Dusty Baker. with the possible exception of jones, the others came in with high expectations and fell drastically short of what they were expected to do. And they made excuses.

What I'd like to know is if Dusty's getting the same fervor in Cincinnati.

the problem i have with this article is that the author doesn't want to completely dismiss bradley. you aren't dismissing racism by dismissing bradley. you are dismissing bradley, and you should. the guy is a certified attention whore and a prick. his resume speaks for itself. his tenure is very short lived most wherever he goes.

If you want to make a statement about racism in baseball among fans, then do it by going to every stadium in every city to see where it's still prevalent or at least evident. don't use bradley as a jumping off point. you're just giving him more leverage.

Why don't they talk to some of the white players on the Cubs and on other Chicago teams about the mail they receive?

Last time I saw him Rex Grossman is white and he got death threats.

When Ryan Dempster was blowing games left and right out of the bullpen, fans were booing. Does that mean Cub fans hate Canadians too?

EVERYBODY booed Rex Grossman. Jay Cutler is also from Indiana, and he took a lot of heat. Do Chicagoans dislike white rednecks too?

Cub fans boo bad players and managers regardless of color, creed, or race. Milton needs to STFU and look in the mirror. Had he kept his mouth shut and played bad, it would not have been near as bad for him here. His talking is what led to all of the shit he went thru, more so than his poor play.

Then there was Chicago's North Side, which was the Cubs' side. It wasn't considered as minority friendly as the South Side, which was the White Sox's side and filled with working class African-Americans.

You know, there's a difference between having minorities and being "minority-friendly." Yes, there haven't been as many visible minorities on the North Side, but to paint the entire South Side as "minority-friendly" vis-a-vis the comparatively homogeneous North Side is pretty disingenuous.
