Tough to say. I don't know much about the competitiveness of the Cuban league. The Japanese league is real...you can be from any country...it isn't locked down like I assume the Cuban league is?

.920 vs .922 OPS.

This actually tightened up even quicker than I anticipated. Maybe they both continue being awesome and this remains a very fun comparison thread through the season.

Hawk is rubbing off on him. The next thing you know he will be talking about "eras" and "gift runs".

I believe Japan allows a maximum of two imports on any team.

I agree with your assessment. At some point, whether in age or non MLB professional experience, a player should not be eligible for rookie of the year.

Is this what the Cubs fans are really down to now? Celebrating a temporary tie between first basemen in Chicago?

There was a time when Bryan LaHair was supposedly better than Paul Konerko too! Go crazy!

Why shouldn't Cubs fans be excited about their MVP candidate 1B?

Stone has always been like that with extended innings and its understandable if you know he's coming at it from the pitcher's point of view. As much as guys like Sale and Samardzija say all the right things post game ("Its my job to pitch around it" etc) you know in their head every one of them is thinking they should be out of the inning.

I think its refreshingly honest as opposed to most announcers

Obviously if the guy gives up 7 runs after the error that's different.

There just seems to be a lot of joy here that Rizzo and Abreu are at least right now comparable. Congratulations!

Why shouldn't there be?

Sox fans fellated the hell out of Abreu up until this point of the season, and disparaged Rizzo at the same time. Based on a very small sample size.

A little "I told you so" seems warranted at this point.

Isn't it much more likely that both players finish within .10 OPS of each other at season's end rather than separated by .100 OPS?

Its understandable that Sox fans who were touting Abreu as the best player that ever lived are a little miffed with the recent developments.

I get it

I said from the start that .100 OPS was too much so yes that is true. There is currently one player in all of MLB who is more than .100 OPS over them so you guys made a pretty safe bet.

jimmy, JORR, Frank, GD, and more. I'm assuming you yourself did in several posts.

Because there is only one player that is "vastly superior."

Rizzo and Abreu are both fantastic this year. Why can't you accept that not many players are very superior to those two?

That still wouldn't be disparaging. Disparaging is a strong word. I don't know who doesn't think Rizzo is pretty good too.

I don't think it's true. There are many players I'd easily take over both of them, and they are not "far superior" on your scale.

I messed up the quote tags. The reply to disparaging was in the earlier quote. Let me fix the BB tags for you.

edit: done, re-read

Show me the quotes that disparages Rizzo. Based on what disparage means, I doubt many did.

I know I didn't.

 jimmypasta is a Cubs fan!

You then found one that says he will return back to his career averages. I can see why you are so offended!

I think using his career average is unfair, given the player's age, the fact that he was probably brought up too early with the Padres, and that it doesn't factor in the obvious adjustments and improvements he is rapidly making.

The trends clearly show he is better than he was in 2013, let alone 2011.

And most likely, his career will be better represented by his 2014 averages and not the numbers from his first 1,000 AB.

Just like Abreu will be more accurately judged in his 4th MLB season than his first.

I'd still like to see you quote where somebody "disparaged" Rizzo. In fact, most Sox fans were complimenting him.

Abreu is plus .179 in OPS, so now its not even "far superior" its 'Let's not even compare these two' difference.

Steve Stone appears to be 100% on the money so far, bigfan.

You barely posted one from jimmypasta. What good dolphin posted is NOT disparaging him at all. The burden of proof is still on you here.

Both JP and GD did just that by the posts of theirs I quoted. 'little power...bad with RISP'
