Strongly disagree. The Sox scored 1 run in the first game. And they had a lead late in the game, and Linebrink put guys on and Thronton walked one in. So that is Bartolo's fault? Contreras did not pitch great, but the Sox had chances to score runs in that game.
Beardown is right. The starters (overall) have not been a major problem. The reason they dropped 3 of 4 in Detriot was the bullpen, not starting pitching. The reason they did not end up with a 4 game sweep of the Rays was the bullpen.
I agree that another starter would be a great help, but the recent struggles have been because of the bullpen.
The recent problems have been in the bullpen, and with the offense. Still, even though they lost 3 of 4 in Detroit, had their bullpen not fallen apart, they would have, at worse, split in Detroit, and maybe taken 3 games.
