The White Sox could get rid of virtually any player on the roster if they were willing to pay 95% of the salary too.

But they're not

So at the end of next season, the sox payroll will look a lot worse.

Dunn and Rios are the Sox version of Soriano and Fukudome...period...end of story.
All anybody has to do is look at the contracts the Sox are obligated to pay next season alone and you just have to figure Kenny Williams is nuts.
With further thought, the contracts of Rios and Dunn are WORSE than Soriano and Fukudome.

The Cubs will owe Soriano $19 million in 2013 and 2014. The Sox will owe Dunn $15 million and Rios $13 million over the same time period. At worst, that's a difference of $9 million, and that assumes that Adam Dunn will always be terrible.

It's really all on Adam Dunn. If he forgot how to play baseball in the offseason the Sox are in worse shape. If he becomes a capable DH then the Cubs are in worse shape even if the Cubs trade away others and pay most of the salary.

Did you get the playoff invoice yet?

The link I found indicates it's a club option for 2013 for him.

I just verified from another site that it is a club option. The buyout may be $4 million but there is no way they are picking it up for $22 million.

I think White Sox fans would like to believe what General Manager Ken Williams told reporters yesterday before the 2-1 Sox winner over the Tigers that "money is no object".

I wrote both of these points on my Twitter page last night, and I took what Williams said with a grain of salt. Just because CF Alejandro De Aza smacked a two-run homer in his first at-bat doesn't mean we've seen the last of Alex Rios by a longshot. I don't think we've seen the last of Rios despite a subpar season both at the plate and defensively. With Mark Teahen getting dealt to the Blue Jays in that 3-way deal that also sent Edwin Jackson to the Cardinals and pitchers Jason Frasor & Zach Stewart coming to the Southside, you would think Brent Morel gets the bulk of playing time at third base. Think again. Unless he's dealt and that #11 is put in mothballs once and for all, Omar Vizquel's going to see a lot more playing time platooning with Morel at the "hot corner".

I heard Kevin Goldstein from Baseball Prospectus on with The SCORE's Laurence Holmes last night discuss the 3-way trade that the Sox, Jays & Cardinals made. He also believed that the White Sox will be "ALL OUT" if they dealt Carlos Quentin, Gavin Floyd and/or John Danks before Sunday's MLB Trade Deadline. I tend to agree.

I don't think ANYONE came up with that assessment of what Williams said.

Yeah that wasn't what he said.

He said he wants Ozzie to play people who give the team the best chance to win regardless of what they make.

That's the impression I got that money is no longer an object with these White Sox. I just have my doubts we've seen the last of Alex Rios in center field, despite what Alejandro De Aza did yesterday. I'm also skeptical that Ozzie won't continue to platoon at third base with Omar Vizquel and Brent Morel, just because Mark Teahen got dealt to Toronto yesterday.

By money is no object, are you saying that he'll bench high dollar players?
What I interpret "money is no object" to mean is that they'll buy regardless of price.

I think "money is no object" means Kenny has given Ozzie the green light to bench guys like Alex Rios & Adam Dunn regardless of how much they are earning...

No, you didn't. http://www.score670.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?p=842374#p842374 You seemed to be just fine with it and you thought that Edwin Jackson and Jenks may have been too much to pay for Adam Dunn.

Try researching a bit more. First of all I WAS critical of the Hudson deal because as I said then -Jackson is basically a #3 or #4 starter who is just a .500 pitcher. That said, to give up a starting pitcher last season in what may have been a rent-a-player deal would be foolish. NOW- a rent a player deal that allowed Dunn to walk would be MUCH preferred to having signed the stiff to a 4 year deal. Hudson was a pitcher the organization viewed as about the same as Jackson (#3 or #4 starter) but makes about 1/10th of what Jackson makes. That would make Hudson by far the better value. The fact that he has gone 18-8 since the deal and may be better than they envisioned....makes the deal that much worse. The thought that Jackson and Jenks was too much to give up for Dunn, (rental or not) cannot be disputed now. But the opinion was based upon the idea of giving up a STARTING PITCHER for a player who might well be around for just 2 months. It was NOT because Jackson was too valuable. It was more because I have never liked Dunn. Horrible on defense and strikes out too much. Now of course....he doesn't hit the homers he used to either.

Try researching a bit more.
Please post the link to the post where you said when the move was made that "taking on that additional salary was foolish". I couldn't find it but you seem confident that you did.

My problem is that you constantly do this. At the time something happens, you say generic stuff and then pretend like you called it. Now, you filled in the details on your argument with the benefit of hindsight and you think you are convincing people that you are some sort of baseball fortune teller. So, either put up or shut up. Post the link where you said at the time the move was made that the move was foolish.

By the way, this link indicates that you did not ever do that. Google Search for your criteria

So I did my research, and I find you to be rewriting history to try and convince yourself and others of something you didn't say. This is a formal challenge. If you can show me a post where you said it was foolish to make the move in a reasonable proximity to the time of the move I'll admit I was wrong. Otherwise, don't try and make things up. Your strategy of making generic statements and then filling in the blanks later isn't fooling anyone.

When the White Sox made the deal involving Edwin Jackson & Mark Teahen before the MLB Trade Deadline, all indications were that another move was going to be made. I was surprised that Carlos Quentin, Gavin Floyd, John Danks & Omar Vizquel also weren't dealt at the deadline.

Now that the Red Sox & Yankees appear to have put these Sox in their place, I think the time has come to put the above names on waivers and see if the Southsiders can cut their losses and trim payroll. This 2011 season is now a lost cause. "ALL IN"? Not anymore!
