The Sox have really made some bad announcer decisions in the past. Benetti has turned into a great choice and hopefully he is giving them positive momentum

I think Benetti is fine, with one major caveat, he is so damn smug. There are times when Stone and him really get going and it feels like its a smugness competition. He's not as smug when I hear him call other sporting events, so I know he has a non-smugness gear, I just wish he would shift into it a little more often during baseball games.

I couldn't stand Benetti for just this reason when he started, But I have grown to like him. Esapecially on ESPN.

My only complaint is Jason is way less funny than he thinks he is. I just thank God Hawk is gone.

I was going to make a joke like "Jason Benetti is a Fire Joe Morgan comments section that gained sentience" but then I remembered that he had Ken Tremendous call a game with him last year so maybe that actually is what happened.

Acceptable stopgap for a short weird season but the voice of the White Sox should be a south sider.

Agreed. No reason to go try to make a real hire right now.

I was hoping for Hawk to team up with DJ.

Agreed times two. This whole season is essentially an extended fill-in role. They need to try and do better next year.

How about a TV/radio simulcast:

1-3: Jason and Stone
4-6: DJ and Stone
7-9: Jason and DJ

Incidentally, did you see that Oakland isn't even going to have free over-the-air radio anymore, just streaming? Do you think that's next for the Sox? I really, really hope not. AM radio may be dying, but baseball belongs on the actual radio.

That would probably be a fun listen and watch, but with a strip down season it probably doesn't make much sense to do that this year yeah?

I still enjoy baseball on the radio. I posted earlier in this thread that I listen to a few games Andy called as I was driving around last season. It was still fun, it was still baseball.

He was almost acceptable at best. But maybe with a larger role, he'll be better. Am willing to listen.

Should have been Ozzie Guillen.

Hughes is definitely great. This is just White Sox bias showing..

For the record as a Sox fan, I have no issue admitting Pat Hughes is a very good PBP radio voice. I've said this before....his only flaw is his exaggerated pronunciation of COHNtreras and other names. it's a bit...it's stupid. There are plenty of heated moments where he proves out it is a bit and says it like every other person on the planet. That's a small flaw that I'd happily live with, as every other portion of his call is very very good.

I hope that Masur is good. It certainly could have been a much worse selection.
I'm fine with Benetti. Steve Stone act grew tired a long time ago, I wouldn't lose any sleep over him being gone.
I'm one of the few people that actually like Darrin Jackson. I thought the "UH OHHHHH" home run call was hysterical.

Hughes is great, but he had a worse WS game 7 than Maddon with his “delirious schoolboy” victory call.

Hughes was great. He's become too smug. Kicking Grote out of the booth was an example. He also misses a lot more in game action. Hopefully he will retire soon. He's had a good run, but it's over.

Agreed, he also disappears for 60 minute stretches..piss in a cup and get back to work.

for the one millionth time, no one calls nine innings of radio play-by-play except John Sterling, and everyone hates him.

Yes....I've heard more non-game interviews with Hughes than I'd care to admit. The dude doesn't come off as someone you'd like to meet....seems kinda like a crotchety version of Chip Caray.

I think that the length of the disappearance and taking some Monday night games off has to do with the vocal cord problems he had a few years ago.

Still, it's time for him to go.
