His ass out stupidity has finally erased the memory of the HS kid who was the grittiest team-first guy I remember.
That is the thing that is the biggest disappointment to me. He seemed to be such a team first guy, and yet something or a multitude of things sure changed him.
Injuries happen. But the way he has changed throughout the process has been a huge letdown.
You know what I have thought about this a little. I don't know how much of a team guy that he actually was, even then. I should rephrase that. He was a team guy, but probably in the way that Lebron is a team guy.
If you look at his high school and college teams, Rose was decidedly the star on those teams. High school is understandable, because its rare to have two potential first round draft picks on the same team. College is different. He didn't choose one of the college powerhouse teams to play for. He chose Memphis, which had Douglas-Roberts and old ass Joey Dorsey. They were marginal NBA guys at best.
You also had shady ass Calipari and big bag of money, but you can get that anywhere. They set his brother up with a cushy Fed Ex job also. You can get that anywhere.
I think that he chose Memphis in order to get the same setup that he had at Simeon. Rose surrounded by a bunch of Role players. He has won in both places doing that. He also was able to win in the NBA on a team where he was the unquestioned star.
This is the first time ever that Rose as the alpha male on a team has ever been in question. When he made the statement regarding "why not him" it was as much one of confidence as it was ego. Most people focused on the confidence part but his ego was at play also. When people harped on his reluctance to recruit free agents that was his ego also.
I think Rose has always had an ego and probably been arrogant, but has never really had to show it until now. Unfortunately it is on display at a time when the whole city is against him, which is the worst possible time.
