In what world was Steve Larmer better than Brett Hull, anyway? Hull scored 101 points in 1992-93 to Larmer's 70. I think no less than 15% of national Chicago Blackhawks fandom is based in how they were inexplicably some sort of hammer of the gods in NHL '94. (Another 15% is Wayne's World and Stan Mikita's Donuts.)

The NHL '94 Blackhawks is probably the greatest video game team of all time. Even the NBA Live '97 Bulls don't come close.

Most excellent thread.

Ashamed of the homerism here. The NHL 94 Penguins were better, just like in the Cup.

Mike Keenan's Rangers take issue with this post.

In the actual Cup sure, but there's no answer for 100 rated Lemieux and Jagr. JR was good, but not that good.

United Center so quiet you can hear Jerry Reinsdorf charging dinners to players.

The Hawks have flipped the switch: back to "off."

Pretty shitty effort, thus far.

I wouldn't wish these shitty announcers on anyone, except St. Louis. Fuck St. Louis.

Nice shutout for Corey.

Boring game, but surely will take the W. Even a bit disappointed that the Blue didn't live up to their usual asshattery :(.

A regulation win in Raleigh would be nice as the Hurricanes need to be disabused of their perennial playoff pipe dreams. They have lots of expiring contracts to move and will make the trade deadline fun (possibly even for us) if they actually learn to give up for once.

WhoTF are the knuckleheads that put the NHL season schedule together? I mean, I can understand how maybe teams like Dallas have 3 games in hand on the Hawk, but look at the Pacific - the Shark have played SIX fewer games

Jesus...

I think much like baseball, the master schedule is done by one guy who's been doing it for years.

I read somewhere that the United Center is booked solid in 2016, so they had to burn off a lot of games early. Only 14 home games between now and the end, compared with 19 for the Sharkies. It has to be hard to schedule the NHL because of the multi-purpose nature of the arenas. It's especially tough when teams don't have the master lease and therefore schedule priority (though somewhat surprisingly, the Kings and Bruins have priority over the Lakers and Celtics, respectively. It's a minor curiosity of sports-biz that the Bruins own the Garden and part of the mighty NESN while the Celtics are just a tenant and slum it on a lesser RSN).

Crawford is now

1st in shutouts
1st in games played
2nd in minutes played
3rd in save percentage
8th in goals-against average

and not an All-Star, but that's nothing we'll remember when he wins the Vezina.

How'd they ever beat a team with Vlad Tarasenko on it.
