Jay Zawaski was day dreaming some possibilities in acquiring Ladd. One of which was somehow, some way getting someone to eat Bickell's cash and then Kruger to LTIR until playoffs. The other was trading Shaw and a couple prospects. I dont see Bickell as seeing possible because of his play and his money owed. The shaw one was an interesting idea in that I dont think i would make that trade.

Ladd's a goner in Winnipeg for sure, with the captaincy shifting to Blake Wheeler, but they're not going to take on Bickell's money to help us out. Just within the division alone, they could put the screws to fast-fading Minnesota or Nashville and get more for him than we could.

I'd say that we should look to New Jersey or Carolina for one of their plentiful expiring contracts, but both teams think they're still in the race. Mason Raymond out of Calgary might be as good as it gets.

Carolina is three points over .500 with a -12 differential and two teams to pass for a wild card. Once someone disabuses these chucklefucks of their playoff delusions, we should be able to scrape someone decent off their roster.

Riley Nash seems like a decent player. Stempniak is the guy I want at the deadline, but I wanted Vermette for years and then he kinda blew most of the time, so I'm trying to outthink myself and pick a mundane player to overperform with a change of scenery.

I responded earlier without knowing that Shaw is RFA after this season. He's making $2.5M this season, so I would imagine he'll get a bump to at the very least 3 for his next deal. Ladd's hit is currently $4.5M, but this season his numbers are off from a stellar season a year ago. Still, I can't see him signing for much less, unless he is willing to accept a one-year low-ball offer to stick with a contender he is familiar with, while not hog-tieing the cap.

Teuvo is still young at 21, but I have not seen much progression from him (relatively short NHL career noted). While he has some talent, the level of talent he has shown is not enough to overcome his lack of size (as opposed to the Kanes, Panarins and Shaws of this world). I don't think his ceiling is very high; even so, once his current deal is over, he will get more than $1M from someone - I just don't know if it will be the Hawks.

Shaw, IMO, and a couple of recent games notwithstanding, has matured a bit, especially once he was moved to the top line to help spark it. He also is one of the few on the team that is willing to stand in front of the net and pay the price, let alone be physical when needed. He still has the tendency to make a boneheaded play, but not nearly as much as previous years. He never seems to take a game off, unlike others.

Ladd is bigger and can produce more than Shaw (providing this season is an anomaly), but again, he's 30 and more expensive down the road if you wish to keep him. There must be a reason why the Jets are hitching their wagon to Big Buff (also 30) for $8M, and apparently willing to listen to deals for their captain.

If you are going to go after Ladd as a rent-a-player, I would be much more willing to give up guys like Teuvo, Rassmussen, Mash, et, al, than a proven X-factor like Shaw. If you know you can keep Ladd for an extra season or two and not destroy what little cap space you have, then go ahead and let Shaw go.

Teuvo as been good defensively and I don't know that comparisons to Kane and panarin are fair. I'm not all about him, I don't notice him most of the time, but that may not be a bad thing.

I love shaw and would be sad to see him go. I liked Ladd but haven't kept track of him.

I hate saying this, I think our problem with the first line is hossa. I'd like to see Teuvo on the first line just to see but I'd hate it at the same time.

It may be a bit of an unfair comparison, but he hasn't yet shown that he has the skill set to solidify his role yet - he's basically just a guy at this point. He is having only a slightly better season at this point than last year, prorating last year's output. If anything, he's mini-Sharp: has little streaks and spurts ( ) here-and-there, but then you don't really see him do much a lot of the time. I think the mindset was that he would move up to the first line, but that experiment did not work out at the start of the season, and since the second line has been so successful, there's been no reason to put him there, either. He needs to find a way to get it in gear on the third line.

Because of his size its going to take Teuvo another couple years to figure out how to get the time and space he needs to make plays in the NHL. He already has world class vision and anticipation which are things you can't develop. It would be incredibly stupid to give up on him at this point in his development.

He's young and has played maybe 100 games and not a ton of minutes. He's played center, left, and right wing. I don't know how much of a difference left or right wing makes, does it? I think he deserves more of a shot and could be more tha a guy.

Some site called "The Hockey Press" says Teravainen+ for James van Riemsdyk is imminent. Pyrrhic trade if true.
