The direction of the Mormon church has been interesting because despite their efforts to rebrand themselves as something resembling Lutherans (they got really into Holy Week and Easter recently after years of never caring, their new logo is a Lutheran statue), they've only become more alienating to the membership and everybody else. The Mormonism of David McKay and Gordon Hinckley leaned into the religion's inherent and abundant weirdness but was positive and uplifting enough that the church grew under them. Now it's just a bunch of 90-year-old men obsessed with following rules and making money. I expect things to get particularly bleak when Dallin Oaks, University of Chicago guy, becomes the president of the church.
