My family had very similar lore as Elizabeth Warren's. Which is something I think was very common in mid-20th century America. And it was always Cherokee. Anyway, I never would have dreamed of claiming it on a college or job application. And it turns out my sister did a 23 and me and we have no Indian blood.

My experience is they any white guy claiming native roots should be ridiculed. This theory hasn’t led me astray yet and I don’t think it will going forward.

According to Ancestry DNA I am 25% white men and 1% Native American. Whiter and more Native American than Warren.

There will be no marriage or procreating though. I don't personally have an issue with any group of people making this decision. It is a little offputting when you hear the disgust in the voice of a Dan Bernstein at the thought of having kids/marrying someone who wasn't Jewish.
