Prosecutor says that they will ask the jury to consider a range of charges, which I don't think bodes well. People will just get confused and you'll end up with a hung jury.

I disagree. I think there is a much better chance to get an appropriate conviction than some undeserved acquittal due to overcharging. From what I read he is charged with homicide. Within that the many layers can be considered.

As for the events this week they have had nightly protests that have been seemingly peaceful and well handled by police. I do not understand one part though in that this is a close suburb but the protests seem to be more in Pittsburgh proper. As for the cop he was know to be a goofball or weird guy as a Pitt cop from people I talked to. My read of the facts is he seems a gung ho stereotypical cop that got way over excited or scared when pulling over a drive by shooting car with people in it. They run he shoots.

According to the media reports I read here he first claimed to have seen a dark something perhaps a gun. He later then admitted he did not think he saw a gun. It seems this should go quietly until a verdict. Based on the supposed emotion of the cop afterward maybe he will plead this out in some way.
