this movie lives up to its promise of being impossible to guess where exactly it's going even when some conventional setups are thrown in.
the friend i saw it with was like "I bet Paul Rudd just wanted to be on this thing to be in something that Tim Robinson made." However, it is not written, directed, nor produced by Robinson (at least not credited). Rudd is actually one of the executive producers, so maybe it's the other way around. Rudd is great in it, as are all the actors. They're all keyed into this kind of humor. Which is pretty unique.
I wouldn't call this "absurdist" or "anti-humor" or like any other odd take on the traditional comedy. there are legitimate laugh out loud moments but a lot of the biggest laughs are of course just reactions to how crazy robinson's character is.
it's just, as any fan may expect, one long episode of "i think you should leave". that should be enough to satiate any fan, but there are some nice surprises even within the universe of his mindset.
if you're not a fan or you're walking in cold, this would probably be a pass. if you are a fan and still don't like this...i don't know what to tell you.
i think JORR would appreciate how many times the word "Rats!" is thrown around though.
