We saw a Mack-less Bears defense in the middle of last year for two games and they allowed a grand total of 19 points.

Dudes on D are gonna need/get new paper and Mitch is gonna get $100M. Before you know it the defense is gonna become dogshit with exits via free agency and no draft picks to reload.

It's better to just blow it all up and re-start from scratch. Time to sell high on Mack/Hicks/Roquan

GIven everything that happened last year, yes I think it would have been quite possible for the Bears to have gone 10-6 without Mack.

In 2017 the Bears defense was..

9th in scoring defense
7th in sacks (3 way tie)
11th against the run
7th against the pass
And Top 10 in overall defense..

Not sure what your source is basing their numbers on, but according to NFL.com that's where the Bears ranked in defense in those areas.

And lets keep in mind how awful the Bears offense was that year too and their defense still help up well.

It was a top-10 defense.

That’s correct, the 2017 defense did not.

I agree with TM tho that a top-10 defense isn’t automatically ‘great’. But I would say that 2017 defense was good, but it didn’t get much support at all from the offense.

I think they were low on turnovers too that year if memory serves..
