I understand wanting to dump Pittman, but I don't understand wanting to dump Quenton Nelson. Even with the injuries, the guy is a stud. May as well throw Jonathan Taylor in the deal if the rumors are true.

Considering you don't have an issue with Buckner's age, would you take on Brandin Cooks and his contract at this point in his career?

Buckner is 28. He'll play the entirety of 23 at 29. He has two years left on the contract so you only pay him for ages 29-30. He's a perfect fit for this team and even played in this defense.

Brandin Cooks is a good WR with a similar contract.

Yeah, I'd take them both on if these were in deals to move from 1 to 2 and then 2 to 4. Picks would have to be included as well.

They each solve some Bears problems for a fair price. Cooks also insulates them from being held hostage by either Claypool or Mooney

Quenton Nelson fell off a cliff in 2022 for whatever reason

Not sure a team of #2 or #3 WR's helps fields as much as getting a true alpha #1 WR that Fields trusts, and you only get that via the draft or by trading for one, did see the possible Raiders trade with Adams involved a few places, but that seems highly unlikely.

Seems highly likely that they will draft a large angry man on the O or D line, who it is will just depend on how far they are willing to trade down.

Think they solve the C and OG problems in FA or in the draft, Nelson would be a massive upgrade, but he has a big cap number for a guard, and not sure that Indy's GM would want to not have a solid O line in place if he is gonna give up all kinds of draft capital to bring in a rookie QB.

Poles holds all the cards here, he can easily get numerous teams competing against each other, and a few of the GM's involved have rather impatient owners who they know will fire them if they fail to get a QB, so he's likely to get increasingly sweetened packages offered to him as the weeks go on, but the future of the franchise depends on him hitting on several of the picks he gets in return, and signing the right veteran FA's.

I'd try to get as many 2026 1st round picks from possible-to-likely-they'll-be-shitty-that-year teams.

impatience is the key

sit back all the way to draft day and let the others sweat. I promise you a nice deal will arise. If not, Will Anderson, the player I want anyway is there to pick.

There are a bunch of really good FA offensive lineman in their mid 20's that Poles needs to target

Kaleb McGary - RT - Falcons
Mike McGlinchey - RT 49ers
Ben Powers - G - Ravens
Jawaan Taylor RT - Jaguars
Dalton Risner G - Broncos
Ethan Pocic - C - Browns
Orlando Brown JR - LT - Chiefs
Andre Dilliard LT - Eagles
Nate Davis G - Titans

Poles needs to come away with 2, ideally 3 of these guys. The Bears are in a position where they can sink 80-100 million a year in their offensive line, especially if you are paying Fields peanuts the next couple of years.

They have to invest tons of FA paper and draft capital to upgrade the C and DT position, not sure if Mustipher is even on the roster next year, they likely start next year with new starters at C, RG, and RT.

There is nobody on the defensive line that is safe to start next year, just basic NFL starter level guys would be drastic improvements, it was embarrassing to watch the defensive line play last season, easily one of the worst starting defensive lines in Bears history. You could suit up OB and Hampton today, and at their advanced ages they could still hold the edge better than Muhammad, who basically stole money all year, and looked/played much smaller than any other starting defensive end in the league.

You really see the impact that an inept GM like Ryan Pace has on a franchise when you see guys like Robertson-Harris and Urban making plays for good NFL teams.

They can pass out a few significant prove it deals and get another bite at the apple next off season. They can also lock up some of the younger guys with front loaded deals.

Who signed Muhammad again? Was that Ryan Pace?

Yep the last thing you want is to jump to early and take a deal now. Let things play out while waiting for the draft. Let people get desperate. The worst thing that can happen is they make the #1 pick and get a great player.

Can Will Anderson put his hand on the ground and be an effective 4-3 DE or is he a 3-4 OLB?

I hope we do well enough in free agency that we don't need to draft Jalen Carter if Anderson isn't there when we pick.

Is Myles Murphy really a DE? He looks like a guy who should be playing on the inside.

Seeing some interesting stuff about the Bears interviewing defensive coaches, may CB gets his wish?

When you watch Clemson stuff you see talent all across the defense, amazing that they lost games, you can hire the best used car salesman available, but the guy still has to be able to gameplan and coach, will be very interesting to see if Coach Prime has success because he is by far the best used car salesman, and has put together a very talented staff, maybe the whole college thing becomes a bunch of ex-NFL players showing up at 18 year olds houses with bags of cash which would put guys like Deebo and Fleck back where they belong, selling used cars or scamming people as mega church peeps or motivational speakers.

Anyone still think it's stupid the Bears tanked for a year?

Depends what they do with those assets

Quote:
Because, as it turns out, the Roquan trade really set things in motion for the offseason that was for a Bears team that looks better now than it did at this time last year. Part of that has to do with new Bears linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, who comes in right behind Roquan as the No. 3 linebacker on Fowler’s list.

And if you’re looking for optimism regarding Edmunds’ future, these words from a coordinator who Fowler discusses the new Bears LB with will get your gears going:

Quote:
“{Edmunds} is such a presence out there with his size (6-foot-5, 250 pounds) and his range and ability to close on the ball that he affects the quarterback, makes him think twice about decisions,” an NFL coordinator said. “You always know you have a Pro Bowl talent roaming the middle of the field when he’s out there.”

In other words, Chicago went from having a Pro Bowl linebacker in the middle of its defense to … having a Pro Bowl linebacker in the middle of its defense. And suddenly, I’m thinking about the total payoff of the Roquan Smith trade.

Ravens get …

LB Roquan Smith
The right to pay Roquan Smith an extension that pays him up to $100 million

Bears get …

2nd round pick (used on DT Gervon Dexter Sr.)
5th round pick (used on LB Noah Sewell)
The financial flexibility to pay LBs Tremaine Edmunds & T.J. Edwards with deals whose total value could reach $91.5 million
