Interested in forming a framework for grading Fields in this new-look offense.

Here are some assumptions:

1) Since Fields is being used as a runner now, passing yard expectations have to be reduced. As we know, if you gain 30 yards on designed runs during a drive, that's 30 less possible passing yards you can accumulate.

2) Scrambles should be scrutinized heavily - is he running because the pocket broke down or because he held on longer than necessary? Points given for making something happen when the protection failed; points taken away for scrambling because of misreads, even if he made something happen.

3) Since defenses have to respect the designed run this should open up windows for Fields to throw - he has to hit those throws. Points given for high yardage pass completions/attempts; no points taken away for drops.

All in all, if they continue to run the offense this way, anything above 250 passing yards seems unlikely given the designed runs. Maybe it's best to say something like 175-225 yards passing and 75+ yards running is the baseline expectation, with weights applied on third down conversion throws/runs as well as red zone TDs. Thoughts?

This game is a good representation of the conundrum. Fields "only has" sub 200 passing yards but he's got 150 running. All in all 300+ total yards plus his multiple TDs is a good game for today. It's a different question of whether this is sustainable over the long term due the injury risks JB and others mention.
