The reason why so many at the Score are so confident in Emery's abilities as a GM frankly eludes me.

Because the Bears' new contract with WBBM includes "increased coverage" from WSCR.

Does the new contract have a mandatory sycophancy clause?

Does "Bears All Access 52 weeks a year" count?

EDIT: To clarify, I'm not saying that that in and of itself is some foolproof evidence of 670 Bears ass-kissing, just that I found it interesting that the Bears have their deal with CBS Radio Chicago as a whole and not just WBBM, so the Score is every bit as much a broadcast partner as 780 is.

Bears told their nearly dozen HC candidates they plan to bring two finalists to Halas Hall this week for second round of interviews.

12 candidates tells me they have no idea what the hell they wanted to do other than get rid of Lovie.

I agree with your premise. Boers says his "source" indicates otherwise, though.

So McCoy can be ruled out as he wouldn't be able to interview this week.

I'm losing track. Has McCoy done a first interview?

Hahaha we just got our coach from the Montreal Alouettes. Truly this is The Lark Ascending.

Well, that was the most highbrow post I'm ever going to make here.

This effectively rules out Ditka's son with the four DUI's, as he is on home monitoring, I believe. Ditka's son with the two DUI's, however, may very well still be in contention.

And Dickerson blew off Harry when Harry asked if the Bears would possibly miss out on a guy to get the coach in before the playoffs ended.

But will they Rise to Candleford? Fuck it, the Alouettes are the Patriots of the CFL, I like the guy. The Bears need to start punting on 3rd down anyway and we're score some sweet, sweet Rougues.

Its going to be Todd Haley as HC, Gregg Williams as DC, Blake Williams as a defensive assistant just to make Jay seem more likeable.

Oh God, the more I read about Trestman, the more I suspect that he is The One. From today's Sun-Times:

Quote:
Trestman has always had a great reputation among football coaches. He has been hired by Howard Schnellenberger, Jon Gruden, George Seifert and Bud Grant among others. Like Phil Emery, he has a varied resume in his professional career and has parlayed that experience into a career as a leadership speaker.

He wrote a book, ‘’Perseverance: Life Lessons on Leadership and Teamwork’’ in 2010. ‘’I am not in the football business. I am in the people business,’’ he wrote. ‘’The best leaders are those who care about those they lead.’’

The similarity in their biographies--and in their shared commitment to a bankrupt corporate discourse--is a little frightening. Ugh.

"I think he's like Bill Walsh, because he's one of those guys that you want to go out and lay it on the line for. He is totally committed, and players are going to want to play for a guy like that!" – Hall of Fame WR Jerry Rice

"Marc is one of the most capable and knowledgeable coaches in the game!" – Hall of Fame coach Bill Walsh

"I think he is one of the most creative minds in football, and he probably isn't getting enough credit for what he has done as an offensive strategist in the NFL." – Former NFL Head Coach Jon Gruden

"One of the most attractive qualities of Marc is he possesses an in-depth overall knowledge of the offensive game. Marc was one of the brightest coaches we worked with." – Two-time Super Bowl champion Head Coach George Seifert

"He (Marc) understands the game well. I mean he knows it all. He's been under all the systems and understands the game of football probably as well as anybody in football today, probably more so, because a lot of guys grow up with a system and that is all they know.” – CFL & Pro Football Hall of Fame coach Bud Grant

Please, please, please, please tell me that the Bears are not hiring coach with the only goal of making Jay Cutler a better player. That's what assistants are for. Obviously, it would be a good thing for the Bears if he could be improved, but not for the sake of the rest of the team.

To his credit, he has coached Steve Young, Bernie Kosar (in college and the pros), and Rich Gannon (when he was good).

Maybe the Colts will win it for him and Dan will be indignant.

Actually my sources tell me he's fine and skipped the game to interview with the Bears.

I heard that the Syracuse guy got the Bills job. And last year didn't the Rutgers coach get the Bucs job? Am I missing something or is the Big East coaching pool the new NFL hot spot?

By genius you mean the coach who risks a kid's life to film practice in a wind storm.

Are you suggesting the Bears need to hire a coach from Boston College?

Mike McCoy cancelled his interview with the Bills earlier today. I hope that means that his interview with the Bears went well.

I guess it's good that the Bears aren't considering Chip Kelly.

What? This makes no sense. Chip Kelly would be the most exciting head coach hire in the history of the Bears franchise. I don't blame him for not going to Cleveland, but I bet he would have taken the Bears job.
