They opened up pop up stores to sell merchandise..money that went directly into their pockets and not shared with the other 30 (at the time) NHL clubs. The Bears, even in the 80’s heyday, never had the business acumen or imagination to do this. John McDonough may not know what a zone blitz is..but he could sure as hell turn that franchise into a serious moneymaker..if that’s what the McCaskeys want. All Sweaty Teddy has done for them is got them into a terrible stadium situation and made Hyundai the official car of the Chicago Bears

and that stadium deal is cited as the source of Ted Phillips strength in the organization
