Zorich was way way way overloved and overrated during his playing days.

I don't think so. Everybody knew what he was.

The Score just took too many calls from ND fans that wanted him to fit somewhere.

I'll throw this one out there. And I loved watching him hit guys.

But, Doug Plank was probably not as good as people might remember. He just had the greatest D ever named for him.

Mike Singletary. Two down player and wasn't the big hitter after his third season.

Accurate. He couldn't cover for crap. Fencik was always covering up for him. Just like with Earl Campbell iirc.

McMahon. My dad still thinks he was great. I just remember him being hurt all the time.

I was going to mention him first. But it was injuries.

How about Thayer?

solid enough but I don't think he ever even reached pro bowl level

Kevin Butler

didn't have a very strong leg and at the same time not especially accurate

I was going to say Waddle which actually is why I opened that 1991 playoff game loss thread because Waddle came up big in that game.

If you're looking at that 1985 offensive line isn't Van Horne your guy? First round pick (#11) and never named All-Pro or Pro Bowl.

No. He was very good.

I guess you would have to go, with evidence, Todd Bell and Al Harris. Todd Bell destroyed Joe Washington but seemed to be easily replaced.

Leslie Frazier was the one that always got me. The aftermath was that we missed a HofF career. He never stuck out to me like that.

If the league didn’t start to water down its rules on hitting players (if I’m not mistaken he was suspended a handful of times throughout his career and even inspired a few changes due to vicious hits).. Carrier would be in the HoF.

He's not popular. The last time I heard his name in this town was when he was nailing walter mondale's daughter

I know it's sacrilege, but I was not a fan of the beloved Peanut Tillman and his punching.

Singletary is the correct answer. His rep was based on his goofy eyes that were assumed to be a visual example of his extraordinary concentration. As I mentioned in another thread, he was always the 3rd guy on the pile.

The "and his punching" part throws me off. That was the best part of his game. He did have issues in coverage from time to time, the Steve Smith playoff game comes to mind.

He called all the plays on the best defense ever.

And he covered and plugged all the gaps. If anything, the eyes thing that broadcast TV focused on made people not understand how he held that group together.

He's not the greatest Bear ever but it became a lazy narrative, a hipster way to analyze the Bears and say he wasn't as good as people thought. He was very, very good. A key part of a tremendous D.

Wilber Marshall was the best linebacker in that trio.

I viewed the punching as borderline cheating. Though I admit I have no problem with someone raking their arm down on a ball carrier or QB to strip the ball...maybe because the raking is usually part of the tackle.

Singletary easy, probably the 7th or 8th best guy on that D. Shouldnt be in the HOF. Kyle Long was pretty damn good for 3 years and should have been cut.. ge was overrated AF
