And you know what you'll be saying. Bunch of losers sitting around in a bar: ''Oh yeah, I used to be Dan Bernstein's hero. It's a tough racket.''

Let me just throw this out there as a hypothetical. What if Theo and Hoyer were just lending a hand to an agent/agency who's guy wanted to go back to Detroit. You have to admit, signing Sanchez didn't really make sense for the Cubs at this time.

I think it could fit the plan in some way but more importantly They went down to Miami to have a face to face with him. That would be quite a rouse

It was 85 and sunny in South Florida all week. If you can make up a business trip to get out of here for a while, go for it. Still costs the organization less than actually signing the guy, and maybe you bank some personal capital with his agent for future use.

What's the plan, dude? How come everyone is so convinced they know the precise plan? I certainly don't.

My best guess is the plan is to be good in a few years. Anibal helps the Cubs be good in the next few years. It's like people think they are just dumping and biding their time. That's CLEARLY not what they are doing. They are dumping the bad and acquiring long term assets at the same time.

Was he overpriced? Totally different debate.

I think the plan is obvious. They've told you what the plan is time and time again and they are doing exactly what they spelled out. They're putting the emphasis on and allocating more resources to player development. It isn't a secret. How well it works out is another story.

And how is it that Anibal Sanchez "helps the Cubs be good" when Gavin Floyd- almost exactly the same guy- is "helping the Sox be medicore"?

What agency represents Sanchez anyway?

I guess I'm asking if there's any connection between Hoyer and Gene Mato?

I literally don't care about Gain Floyd. I don't know why you are so oddly fixated on him.

So let's say Anibal isn't a part of the plan that they have told us time and time again (that I must have missed). What happened? Did they forget the plan? Maybe they just need a reminder? Brainfart?

The plan is to make the organization better. Anibal would have done that for the next 5 years.

I'm no more fixated on him than you are on Anibal Sanchez. We're just talking about pitchers. Why would an average pitcher signed for huge money make the organization better at this point? When they're ready to contend, the market for pitching may be different and it's possible you won't have to pay $80 million for guys like Sanchez/Floyd. There was no pressing need for the Cubs to sign a guy like that. And I'm a guy who thinks the Cubs owe their fans more than they've given the last couple years. But that long deal isn't what I'm talking about.

I'm not really sure why you're trying to argue with me. Your first response had nothing to do with my post. I merely suggested there may well have been a favor from a baseball executive to an agent that helped drive a player's price up. Would that be unheard of? I'm not saying for sure that's what occurred here, but it's certainly not a leap. If you know all the players involved and you know who they are and where they come from, you can understand why MLB didn't want an agent owning a ballclub and you can see why Reinsdorf ran the guy out.

The speculation that Theo helped the agent is fine. That may be what happened.

And yes, the market could be different in 1 or 2 years. It may be worse, which is what history continues to show. Prices are going up, not down. That doesn't mean it will be that way for sure, but if you can sign a pitcher now for 5 years at a price you are comfortable with, you do it. And obviously there was a price they were not comfortable with.

Nonetheless, the plan is still in place. Make the Cubs better.

Because he throws almost 200 innings a year and has a near .500 record. Something a lot of MLB pitchers do.

But if you trade Floyd, you almost certainly won't replace him with one.
