All I can say is don't sweat the small stuff. I shine my light pretty bright there are things I don't and won't accept but I'm not going to raise a stink about petty stuff. I think there should be more "bend". Digging heels in on both sides of this type of issue does no good.

I say, whenever in doubt, always go with it being racist! Always error on going against the side of the white man.

As long as people see a black man/woman as a black man/woman, rather than just as a person, there will never be a total sense of equity. I do not have a lot of Black friends that I see socially. I play softball and Basketball with some black guys, but we don't get together socially for parties or dinners/cookouts. But in my Grandfathers day, the two races wouldn't have been playing sports together. Progress in race relations has been slower than many black people would like, but the progress continues. As much as the story stoneroses tells about the 65 year old black man is one that brings to mind the progress that has been made, so do we continue to see changes . I guess it's easy to say "be patient", when you are of the race that's in the superior position.

My problem with this dialectic is that there ARE differences between people. What's wrong with recognizing that, as long as those differences are not used as a way to discriminate? I don't think it's racist to recognize the differences between people of different races. The key is respecting each other.

A friend of mine once joked the only way we'll get beyond this is if an alien race shows up to wipe us out. Only then, would we go, "Hey, you might be a fill-in-the-blank; and I still don't like your fill-in-the-blank ass, but at least you're human!"

Sadly, America did have the massive attack on our soil. And for a time, we did get along rather well. Then we fell back to age-old "I don't like your sorry ass" routine and we regress back a ways.

Acceptance and tolerance is like waves coming up on the beach. We get further each time, but we tend to regress back after we make strides forward.
