If the Cubs had Cash and Wells they may very well be in 1st in the NL Central.

This season it's still probably the Sox.

If the Cubs offense picks up a bit and we get Wells and Cashner back I could see the argument either way.

Long term, it's probably the Cubs at this point since we have a stronger farm system provided Hendry is gone

Cubs dont really have to 'turn' anything around. They are playing OK and will be around the top of division until they clinch it in September. 8)

Well they don't. So you have to go with the notion that they're not going to available or stable for the near future, same as you have to do with Peavy. So since you can't really count on them, you still voted Sox?

Wells has forearm stiffness, Peavy is on life support as we speak. I don't think you can lump them together Darklok.

Cubs have 2nd highest batting average in the NL. The offense has been pretty good, it is the starting pitching that has been the problem. If Dempster can figure things out and Cashner/Wells can come back and contribute they might be alright.

They are both throwing live to batters this week. Wells should be back in 2 weeks, Cash maybe 3.

All I'm saying is that with 2 starters down and garbage starting in their stead and zero production from the 3 and 5 hitters this team has hung in there. If they get those 2 back and Pena actually hits they could still be in the mix for their division. The Sox seem at the point of burying themselves beyond the point of repair.

Good point. I got lazy and just looked at runs scored which they are 11th in NL and 21st in MLB. Pitching has definitely been the problem though

I'd like to say the Sox, because I think they can only go up from this point. I said that this weekend, and along came a no hitter chucked by a guy with a 9+ ERA

I said early in the season that Cubs defense and middle relief was going to hurt them in the long run. I still say the Sox but that could change after this roadtrip out west they have...

They're not currently playing like it but the Sox have more talent at the major league level and though the Cubs minor league system is better it's not particularly good. Baseball America ranks them 16th and Fangraphs has them 20th (maybe someone with a prospectus subscription can post their ranking). It's not like the Cubs are the Royals or Rays with tons of talent in the minors.

Considering that I'll go with the team that has more talent at the major league level.

A fan!
That's my favorite show on tv right now I think. Even more than my Sox and Cubs (almost)!

I've been watching it since the debut. I'm a huge Brendon Small fan from his Home Movies cartoon.
The DVD's are a must!

I'll just say right now it looks like the Cubs division is up for grabs. If some Cubs start earning their money, they might have a chance. The Sox look like they have at least 2 AAA players playing everyday. Also,AJ sucks like he has sucked defensivley for the last 2 years at least. Combine that with slow starts by a few others and a crap bullpen, well there you go.
