What about Wong makes you think he does not pan out?

It's a limited sample size, but he was brutal at the end of last year.

I really hope I'm wrong...I think the kid could be a really good player...but I'm certainly not in love with him like a lot of my fellow Cards fans.

Oh, and bad on me...I'm guessing if Wong sucked, Ellis would get the nod at 2nd before moving Carp back over there...forgot about that pick up in the offseason.

I actually agree with you. I have not been that impressed with Wong. I was having this discussion with a buddy of mine not too long ago. I think they should look at trading him while his prospects are so high. Get something in return for him now. Of course my buddy told me I was crazy. Guess we will see.

I think a lot of my feelings on him stem from all the talk during the trade deadline last year...almost every person I heard call into MLB radio wanted the Cards to trade Freese so they could move Carpenter to 3rd and open up the spot to Wong...who had proven absolutely nothing.

At least now if he doesn't pan out they can fall back on Ellis...if they had done this last year and Wong sucked ass, they'd be looking at Daniel Descalso every day at 2nd or 3rd...

Braves signed RHP Ervin Santana to a one-year, $14.1 million contract.

Injuries to the Braves pitching staff necessitated this move and the Braves are very lucky a pitcher of Santana's caliber was still on the market. Santana signs for the exact qualifying offer he turned down from the Royals and will try to get his $100M next off season in a down free agent market. The Braves lose their first round pick (26th overall).

if that long haired fuck on the north side can keep it on the rails for a few months, they will get a ton in return for him.

Detroit offered Max Scherzer 6 yr/144 million...

...and he turned it down.

All parties involved are out of their fucking minds.

He's betting on himself. I would not be tailing him on that bet.

CY recency or not; Max Scherzer is not the 3rd best pitcher in baseball.

You'd think so, but if he has a year close to last, he will get even more.

I think as fans we (at least I) concentrate a lot on the per year number, but if you're the player especially in baseball its the total number that matters

He'll be 30 and they're offering 6 years. I can see a 7th year if he's great but nothing he can do to get an eighth. I guess he should be commended for having faith to bet on himself.

I'm looking at the total number in almost all of these cases, because as you've pointed out, the salaries fluctuate so much year-to-year that what looks like a great deal in years 1 and 2 can look absolutely horrible by contract end.

In this case, I don't see any way that deal could have been structured that I would think it would be good for the Tigers.

He does have less miles than most 27 year olds

Here's a Yahoo article making that case. I dont agree.

I can only think two things:

1) Shelby Miller fucked someone's wife (besides his own)
2) The front office in St. Louis doesn't deserve as much credit as they are getting

Illitch wants to buy a title before he dies. He's uber rich, 85 years old, and doesnt give a fuck. Boras' wet dream.

The Tigers and Miguel Cabrera agree to an 8yr/$248M extension.

Miggy is already under contract for '14 and '15 season at $22M per. This extension will lock him up thru 2023.
