I actually thought Martinez would be an excellent manager, given everything I heard about him. I'm starting to think the problem is the GM. I love the fact that he's a local guy, but he shuts down Strasburg one year, hires loser managers, and it seems like every player that leaves there is a headcase.

I heard ownership likes to meddle in baseball decisions so the blame could fall on them.

Sure, but I shouldn't think that the teams that would potentially want him would be wringing their hands at the thought of $3mil. Maybe they do/did, I of course don't know, but it just seems such a relatively paltry sum to be concerned about.
