LAW MOCK 2.0

10. Chicago White Sox
Blake Rutherford, OF
Chaminade College Prep (West Hills, California)

I've otherwise heard the White Sox being in on college arms, but it sounds as though they might take Rutherford if he fell here unexpectedly. I've also heard Rutherford being someone the teams with large bonus pools might try to get to slide into the sandwich round or high second round.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

26. Chicago White Sox
Gavin Lux, SS
Indian Trail Academy (Kenosha, Wisconsin)

Lux's market starts around pick No. 21 and probably ends around 32. The White Sox are also heavy on Robert Tyler, and I've heard them a little with T.J. Zeuch.

LAW Mock 3.0

10. Chicago White Sox
Zack Collins, C
Miami

I've heard them on Hudson, Robert Tyler and suddenly on Collins, but less on high school guys.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

26. Chicago White Sox
Gavin Lux, SS
Indian Trail Academy (Kenosha, Wisconsin)

Lux's market seems to be in this range, with the Dodgers and Blue Jays also heavy on him. The White Sox also have been linked to Robert Tyler.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

and from BA:

10. WHITE SOX: Chicago has been tied to all kinds of players because it has two picks; it’s been tied to Gavin Lux as well as Miami catcher Zack Collins. If South Sider Corey Ray is available, the White Sox won’t pass. PICK: Zack Collins, c |

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
26. WHITE SOX: Nothing sexy here; the White Sox have been linked to lefty Eric Lauer for weeks with their second selection, but it makes sense and fits the board. PICK: Eric Lauer, lhp

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jim Callis at MLB Pipeline:

10. White Sox: Corey Ray, OF, Louisville
Part of the first tier of college position players with Lewis and Senzel, Ray seems to be sliding a bit. He'd be a great fit for Chicago because he's from the city and participated in the club's Amateur City Elite program that promotes baseball in the inner city, not to mention a great value at No. 10. The White Sox have cooled on Miami catcher Zack Collins and could decide between Hudson and fast-rising Wisconsin shortstop Gavin Lux if Ray doesn't get here

26. White Sox: Gavin Lux, SS, Indian Trail Academy (Kenosha, Wis.)
If the White Sox wind up with Ray at 10 and Lux at 26, they'd be ecstatic. If that proves to be wishful thinking, a college pitcher such as Zeuch, Sedlock, Lauer or Tyler could be the backup plan here.

The Funk Man actually threw the ball really well in the 2nd part of the season. He won't get near the $1.75M he reportedly turned down last year but this late season run got him a little closer.

Law]s final mock 4.0

10. Chicago White Sox
Dakota Hudson, RHP
Mississippi State

They could also be in on Rutherford or Ray here. I've heard they're unlikely to take Zack Collins.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

26. Chicago White Sox
Zack Burdi, RHP
Louisville

I was told this is a "lock" if Burdi gets this far.

I dont like drafting a reliever at 26, nor am I particularly enthused by Hudson. I would really like some position players in the system at some point.

First "surprise" of the draft with Anderson going 3rd.

Wow. Ian Anderson 3rd. Didn't think the Braves would go HS pitcher and never thought Anderson would go ahead of Groome.

The Brewers pick is going to decide how the next 5 picks play out.

They're taking Corey.

Pint is a bad fit at Coors Field.

from ESPN Law Big Board

18. Zack Collins, C
Miami
Previous rank: 17

Collins is a catcher now but is a bat-first prospect who'll move to first base or DH in pro ball, potentially going in the top dozen picks because of his offensive performance and potential to hit for power and get on base.

more from ESPN on Collins

Summary :
Collins has the best approach in the country, regardless of position, and currently has twice as many walks as he does strikeouts. Collins also has average, all-fields raw power that plays up because of his ability to work counts into his favor and hop on pitches he knows he can drive.

There's some length to the swing, especially in the back, and there are some concerns about how much Collins will hit. He moves well enough to stay at catcher right now, showing solid mobility behind the plate. His receiving is fine and he has experience catching pro-quality stuff at Miami. The arm is fringe average and Collins' body is physically maxed out. There's a chance he gets too big and slow to continue catching and has to move to first base, which would put an awful lot of pressure on the bat.

The approach and power are constants worthy of consideration in the sandwich round at latest. If you believe he hits and stays behind the plate long term, then he's almost certainly a late first-rounder.

and from ESPN Eric Longenhagen

Collins has the most advanced approach in the draft, with what some scouts consider to be major league-ready strike zone awareness and pitch recognition already. He also has above-average raw power. However, some scouts are concerned he is going to strike out a lot, given the excessive movement in the way he loads his hands. It's also hard to find evaluators who think he remains at catcher; they think a move to first base is very likely.

While the White Sox might be looking at a 1B-only prospect with a grade-45 hit tool and grade-55 power tool, the approach is the trump card, and Collins is a high-probability big leaguer despite a lackluster on-paper profile. Collins was in to work out for Milwaukee, who picked at No. 5, and there has been buzz on him as a candidate for an underslot deal in the same way Kyle Schwarber was an underslot deal a few years ago, though pick 10 could be a little late for an underslot deal.

I gotta admit I love the way the Red Sox and Yankees draft. They don't get bogged down by any of the bullshit. They simply take the player with the highest ceiling on the board. It's a luxury few teams have.

It's funny watching the videos of Gav from the summer and fall because that's when he had a bad hitch in his swing. Kid worked his ass off during the winter and came out in the spring and ding dong the hitch was gone. That's when he started rocketing up draft boards. Great kid and tremendous makeup and work ethic. He's gonna be a star.

37. Zack Burdi, RHP, Louisville

6' 3"209 lbs.Louisville

Summary :
Burdi was throwing hard for Team USA last summer, but this spring, his mid- to upper-80s slider is more consistently above average, and scouts like his chances of one day being a high-leverage reliever. Burdi really has to open up his hips to get his fastball to his glove side, and it's possible that he never has command of that realm, but his arm side command is fine and he spots the outside corner or just away from it with regularity. If he can work his 80 mph grade fastball there and have some command of his slider, he's a big leaguer.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The White Sox's draft has yielded two of the most big league-ready prospects available in Burdi and Zack Collins. Burdi can hit triple digits with his fastball, with movement on the pitch, and his slider is consistently plus. He did pitch in relief at Louisville, but many teams think he can start. Given how high the White Sox just drafted him, it's likely they fall into that camp.
