I've heard that. But if they used a skeleton playbook then why play Cutler at all? Doesn't make sense to me.

Spmack, why are you even listening to this show, shouldn't you have your condom over your keyboard for Silvy, instigator boy?

can you find that quote? I had this same argument with a friend of mine who said the Bears won't even score next week.

See, if this were November or December I would've been all over that. It's 2011 and I'm trying to be a better poster.

I don't have a link, but Martz basically confirmed it in his press conference last Wednesday...I remember hearing it when I was in my car.

I've only been able to 1/2 way pay attention to the show, but has anybody bitched about Hester getting run out of bounds by the punter? That would be true Chicago meatball.

Hester has been a kicker/punter away from a return TD too many times this season.

But again (and I watched the whole game) at no point did the Bears look capable of scoring an offensive touchdown in that game. I was praying for a defensive takeaway for a return or a Hester run-back. That was probably as overmatched as the offense looked all season (including the Patriots game).

That's why I don't understand why Carroll didn't just copy Green Bay's approach yesterday. Letting any receiver, even G-reg, run unencumbered in single coverage straight down the middle of the field is not something Green Bay is likely to do vs Cutler and the Bears.

GB's special teams are still suspect and I doubt Rodgers (well, his receivers) will be able to go 31 for 36 outside on Soldier Field's crap playing surface.

But I expect GB's defense to be just as stingy as they were in week 17--with the caveat that if the officiating is as offense-friendly as it was for this weekend's games, Bears going deep could still lead to positive yardage on incompletions--Cutler just has to throw the ball where only his receiver can get it. Heck, you could even throw uncatchable passes yesterday and still get illegal contact called against the pass defense.

Also expect Matthews and the Packers to shut down the scrambling for 1st downs/TD's Cutler managed against the hapless Seahawks.

Quote:
They at least gave opposing defenses a good look at how to shut down the Bears offense--take-away everything deep and make Cutler beat you with underneath passes to Forte and G-reg. Cutler seems equally accurate throwing short as throwing deep--that is, inconsistent. But you give up less letting Cutler beat you underneath than down-field.

Eventually Cutler will pull a Grossman, try to go deep into double/triple coverage and a pick or sack results. Haven't looked at the stats on the season, Cutler probably throws a higher percentage of his TD passes from outside the red zone than any other starting NFL QB.

Same for GB's surprisingly effective special teams play--Green Bay took away the home run play there as well.

For Green Bay, Rodgers is very aware that he can't take another hit to the helmet else he'll be sidelined for the season and thus far less a threat to run than he usually is.

Does he realize the Bears ran on the Pack at will in the first 1.5 quarters? It was looking like a big day for Forte until they decided to throw the rest of the game.

Why is it ok to make excuses for the opposing QB, but not for Jay Podium?

People, Dan McNeil isn't paid to intelligently break down football games. He's paid to rile people up and get ratings.

Mac keeps going on and on that he wants to see Cutler play well after getting behind by a good team and then he will have more confidence in him. Didn't Cutler do just that against the Jets?

I'd rather see Cutler get out to a 28-0 lead, which is exactly what an elite QB should do to a 7-9 football team.

I guess Mac is moving the meters, but he's sort of making Scorehead sound savvy

Hub and Mac are having a party.

Hub: "What if Jordan Babineaux had arms? What if he caught that ball?"

Cue the giggles.

Ugh. Jay needs to be bad and then good in a playoff game, not just good the whole game. That will prove that he's good.

Don't know, I don't make excuses for Hub. Ask Scorehead.

This

Mac is playing the contrarian, and blowing the meatball call. Dan and Terry will likely do the same thing later. "The....Bears...did...what...they...were...supposed...to...do!"

Didn't Bernsie say last week that he's fully prepared to meatball-it-up for a week for this one?

Cutler going 15/28 for 275 yds was a great first playoff performance--but it was against the 27th ranked defense (regular season) /12th out of 12 in the post season. Brees put up 400 yds on the Seahawks defense in Seattle the weekend before.
