I know much of Apatow's stable of young talent went onto greatness, but additional cast members on a show I just watched on IFC included:

David Koechner playing a waiter in an all u can eat joint
Ben Foster as a borderline retarded student
Jason Schwartzman as a fake ID guy

Incredible eye for talent by those guys...

Borderline? He seemed pretty full blown to me.

he was a fan of "three's company". does anything more need to be said?

watching "freaks & geeks", besides it being the best written teen drama of all time, is also like watching a time capsule for everything apatow. just about every one of those guys has a career now, or at least has appeared in other things afterward.

Is it safe to assume that this, coupled with Arrested Development are the 2 most under-respected series of the last 15 years or so?

Check out Undeclared on IFC friday nights for a similar fix of future superstars. Every episode seems to have a bit player in it who went on to do big things. Tom Welling makes a brief cameo in the opener. Pam from the Office is in it. Amy Poehler plays a high strung RA. And several more.

"undeclared" was pretty good, too. but sometimes it lost its tone the way that some apatow films have, too. "freaks & geeks" was a lot more consistent.

but i loveeeeed monica keena.

yep, freeks and geeks was about 10,000x better than Undeclared. I was only pointing out that Undeclared has some great cameos by actors who later went on to do big things.

I have never found Schwartzman funny at all and he is a Hollywood baby. Mom Talia Shire, Dad was a producer and Uncle Francis Ford Copola. Nic Cage, also a cousin.

If you look at tons of Indi films by young producers, they try to find the one kid who has the hollywood connection. They try to get him to star in the film and use his connections to make it. Pretty good formula.

John Fabre in Swingers, thuis giving us Vince Vaughn. Ben Stiller in Bottlerocket, giving us the Owen brothers.
