Ah, I see what you mean, NBC is broadcasting the Penguins @ Hawks next. Hopefully Doc Emrick is calling that one with Eddie O.
Mike "Doc" Emrick & Eddie Olcyzk indeed called Penguins/Blackhawks on the "Peacock" today.
What NBC Sports did today was a gimmick called "Hockey Day in America", where they featured 3 regional games at the outset and then had Pittsburgh/Chicago as its feature game. The fact that the Pens' Sidney Crosby being out & the Hawks' freefall wasn't quite what NBC had in mind when they scheduled the game months ago. Still, the Hawks won a game they really needed 3-2 in a shootout.
The idea behind it is to show the Rowan Atkinson-looking NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and the knuckleheads who run the league that NBC & its new sister channel VERSUS can do the heavy lifting when their U.S. contracts expire after this season. All indications are that because Comcast-owned VERSUS is now part of the new NBC Sports Group, the NHL won't be leaving either network anytime soon.
