Outside of Devin Hester and Thomas Jones, this has been a Grade F performance. From turnovers to play calling, from Rex Grossman to the bend, but don't break defense, absolutely pathetic.

I don't know what any of this season meant.

Turnovers, giving the colts a short field and rex not being able to handle a snap is what cost them. When the defense is on the field all night you can't expect to win.

Agreed, the defense held the Colts to 22 points. I think most people would've expected a Bears victory if they knew that before hand.

Run Defense was pathetic this game and its what really lost it for them. 3rd and 8 and you let the colts get a first down on a running play! :(

While the defense was not stellar, they should get none, or at least very little of the blame.

Bad Rex, and questionable play calling is why they lost, plain and simple.

Not enough running plays and pus-armed tosses from Rex's back foot. Why were there not more run plays called? Did they even run the ball 20 times? The O-line and every offensive player should have been rested enough to run run run run and run some more.

You can't really expect a stellar defensive performance from a squad that was on field for as long as they were.

The Colts had one of those playoff runs where everything fell into place for them. Who would have expected the great Belichick to let a huge lead slip away? Who would have guessed the Chiefs wouldn't run their great back 30 times? Congrats Colts, shame on you Rex and Ron.

the idiots saying "they only ran the ball X times!" are not taking the following into account...

they were trying to run.

they were not getting ANY yardage.

THEREFORE they would have to punt, giving the ball over to the Colts who would take 10 minutes to drive all the way down the field...look at the time of possesion, when you're losing that 2 to 1, you're going to have less plays, hence less running attempts...and in turn, you're running poorly, which is leading to low time of possesion.

and here we go with GET RID OF GROSSMAN.

the defense sucked.

the offense sucked.

the bears sucked as a team tonight.

Jones never got a chance to get a rhythm going, neither did the O-line. Hard to get yards on the ground when you run one time per possession. 1st down pass, 2nd down run, 3rd down pass, 4th down punt.

Thomas Jones 15 carries for 112 yards doesnt count for running yards eh? Dont let the facts get in the way of a good argument.

Here are the facts:
19 rushes, 111 yards, 5.8 yards per carry.

Looks like a good running game that was underutilized.

The series where Turner called a pass on 2nd and 1. Rex gets sacked. 3rd down Rex falls down. I had to watch Turner's act for 8 years down here and he hasn't changed. That was the beginning of the end.

Our defensive tackles were bad. Our ends were bad. The absence of Harris and Brown showed today. I feel sick because this was a game we should have won.

There has to be some decisions made in the offseason. An open competition for QB would be a start.

Reason, I agree, but we both know we're going to hear "Rex is our quarterback" from now until Bear-bonnais.

the running game wasn't getting anywhere in the early going. if drive summaries are available, check out when most of those yards came.

Yeah Hummer, but soon pitchers and catchers report.

i hate to say this, but those numbers lie.

his long run was 52 yards.

that leaves 50 yards over 14 carries, coming to 3.5 yards a gain. take into mind that a few of those were on the last series or two where the bears were (for some reason) running delayed hand offs - i dont have time now to figure it out, but i'd say he gained a nice 25 extra yards on the last drive where it was already over.

other than the one really nice run, he wasnt making much yardage on his runs.

and my MAIN POINT is that you cannot say "i cant believe he only ran 15 times!" when they didnt do _____ many times. THEY DIDNT HAVE THE DAMN BALL FOR MOST OF THE GAME!

the one thing CBS was not showing was the coverage on all of those awful dink and dunk passes the bears were throwing...were the guys downfield covered well?

oh well. baseball season.

112 minus a 52 yard run = 60 yards on 14 carries, 4.3 yard average for Mr. Jones.

You also can't discount that big run, the smaller runs usually pay off with big gains. Part of the reason they didn't have the ball longer is because the clock stops after incompletions.

They had 7 plays in the 2nd quarter and held the ball for 4 minutes. That's when they could have lengthened the lead and give the defense a breather, but they didn't.

I wish I had the patience to listen to Uncle Fuzzy's postgame, because I'd wager he's bitching about the same thing.

hummer,

you're right. about my math. i was off by 10 yands. i'm still in post "i cant believe we played so shitty" mode.

regardless, i looked at the last two drives and Jones had 24 yards over 2 carries on those drives.

since there are so few drives, i wouldnt put it out of mind to post all of the drives (that sounds like something murph would do on his show) and see how they ran versus passed. quickly looking at them on yahoo, you see a bears 3 or 4 and out for 1 minute and then the colts get the ball and hold on to it for 5 to 7 minutes and get 7 or 3...

I thought the running game was less effective than it should have been.

The Bears seemed really predictable, especially in the first half, on when they were running and when they were passing. Bad game plan.

Thomas Jones's stats are misleading: he got some long runs late in the fourth, when the Colts were either just playing the pass or conceding the run to let the clock run down.

I would like to see TJ's running stats in the second and third quarters, when the outcome of the game was still in question.

Both of our lines got manhandled in the truest sense. Regardless of the poor performance from the coaches on down, it all starts with the big guys.

Im so pissed off right now I shouldn't be in public.

Did a quick check. Thomas Jones had six rushes for 20 yards in the second and third quarters. I blame that on terribly predictable play-calling. I do give the Colts' D some credit for stopping the run when they needed to.

TJ also had 28 yards on three carries after the Colts returned the pick to go up 29-17. Garbage time, pretty much, but it made the Bears' running game look more effective than it was.

He played pretty well, but the game plan sucked.

I have stayed away from bashing rex all year, but he was a huge reason they lost tonight. His td pass was thrown into triple coverage, a bad play by the defense more then a great pass by rex. I just can't get over how many snaps the guy fumbled this year. I cannot blame a defense that is out there for over 80 plays and holding the colts offense to 22 points is a good days work.

I am hoping that angelo has a plan to put another option then rex next year, because the guy just seems not anle tp learn from his mistakes.

Yea, as Dennis Green would say, Rex was who we thought he was, but what about this:

Anyone here the name Lance Briggs AT ALL tonight?

FUCK YOU GROSSMAN! You can't take snaps, can't move backwards without falling on your face, can't retrieve your fumbles (or anyone else's), threw two really shitty interceptions...oh, yeah, and you've also proven to be a straw man for three of the past four years.

Griese or Orton could have put up a 78 QB rating throughout the playoffs - and they likely could have held on to the ball today. You blow. Can we get a 3rd round pick for him?

I would have REALLY REALLY (and most peepz at the party i was at were BEGGING for) liked to see Griese come in after Rex's first INT...if for no other reason to calm him down...for even just a SERIES, to see what Brian could do, if anything.

No way would that ever happen in the Super Bowl. They stuck with Rex all season, that wasn't going to change there.
