That's what I mean. There will be other losing road trips. And the Sox aren't locked in for winning homestands.

They could still win the division.

Looking at the scehdule...
4/18-4/28 road trip
4 @ Rays
3 @ Tigers
4 @ Yankees

5/6-5/15 west coast trip
3 games each at M's, Angels, and A's.

The Sox will win 8 of those 20 games. Digging a hole only a 25-5 run can overcome. Not again this year Sox fans. :(

They have owned Detroit in Detroit over the last few seasons and there is a good chance Cabrerra is not with the team early in the season. Rays are a different team this year, especially without Sox killer Crawford...and the Yankees, well let's just say bring on Freddy and Bartolo.

Yes the will win 86 or more games. I think both the Royals and Tigers will suck giving them plenty of divisional wins.

They are 14-14 vs TB over the last 3 seasons (including playoffs). Buehrle (8-3) and Danks (5-2) both pitch well against them.

What's it gonna take to take the division this year?
Twins have Justin Morneau back so they might be a little better eh?
Now, Joe Nathan had surgery about a year ago so when does he come back?

91-95 wins is generally enough to take the division each year. The way this team is built, I see them as a 91-93 win team. The way I see the Twins built, they aren't any better than last year (even with Morneau). Detroit is not as good as last year, Cleveland might be better, Kansas City sucks more than usual.

I'm not sure Morneau is going to be ready to start the year anyway. I read where he said the concussion is in control, not him.

See

That's just it. I didn't read that, but I can't say I'm surprised. With how bad the concussion was last year, I always think about Corey Koskie, who was never right after his major concussion.

The Twins lost a lot of pieces to their bullpen, their closer is coming off of Tommy John surgery, who knows what will happen with Morneau, they lost a middle infielder, and they play in a park that nobody can hit a HR in until June and that Joe Mauer can hardly ever hit a HR in. They will not win this division.

It's not that it's a "bad" concussion, but he has not recovered. Would be like a constant state of feeling really hungover. That would be awful. :(

So the the Tigers are winning it then?

I don't know, the Nascar Rules Cabal had their meeting at the same place as Hawk's Umpire Conspiracy last weekend.

I'm a Cubs fan but I agree with Hawk. I'm sick of the floating strikezone, too.

They are judgment calls. Are they going to enforce the batters box too??

When I see every year literally dozens of pitches right down the middle called balls, then it is in my judgement the umpires suck.

That would make the pitch above or below the strike zone, your welcome for clearing that up.

What's the argument again? Any pitch, no matter where it crosses the plate, not called a strike is a ball. What is so hard to figure out?

You know, I have a feeling that this team is going to win something like 87-90 games. Even without Peavy (who will likely soar like a majestic albatross someday) I think this team has enough pitching and pop to end up being slightly better than average, with right around 10 games above .500 being the high mark.

Say what you will about his on-screen persona and all of his much-ballyhooed offspring, but Ozzie can manage. Don't forget that he spent part of the 2001 season being a third base coach for the mighty mighty Montreal Expos (VIVE LES EXPOS! -- the most ironic battlecry in all of baseball =) My favorite Ozzie managing moment was up in Skydome a few years back (I wanna say either 2006 or 2008) when B.J. Ryan was closing for the Blue Jays.

With a one-run lead, B.J. was absolutely lights out and filthy, the White Sox looked like they had no chance. I think he managed to strike out the first two batters of the 9th on 6 consecutive pitches, and looked like he was about to do the same to Jermaine Dye. After a called strike on Dye, Ozzie ran out and acted the fool kicking and screaming about the strike zone (hawk would be proud) and overall just plain-ol-rabblerousing and maybe managed to get kicked out of the game, I honestly can't remember.

After his little tirade, B.J. Ryan started to miss the strike zone and ended up walking Dye, who became a pinch runner and eventually came around to score after a SB/base-hit or a couple'a base hits in a row. Basically, Ozzie did whatever he could do to knock B.J. Ryan out of his rhythm, and in the end helped the result of a victory in extra innings. It's the little things like that which aren't quantifiable in stat metrics that tell me this guy right here, this guy Oswaldo knows what the fuck he's doing.

That said, I think he'll be able to get enough out of this team to hover around/just-above .500 for most of the season and have a pretty solid chance of making the playoffs, where they'll be summarily dispatched by one of the teams from the AL East. Put me for the over like John Cena.

I wouldn't bet on that, but do you guys really think it would be head-scratching crazy if this team won 100 games- or very close to it? Only one White Sox team has ever won 100 games in a season, so it seems silly to predict such a thing. But if you look at this team and the guys they have and their past performance and the division they play in, I don't think Frank saying they might win 97 games is particularly outlandish. In fact, I would submit that the suggestion they will finish under .500 is far more absurd.

96-97 wins. Beat the Yankees in ALDS, A's in ALCS, Giants in the WS.

Start your parade plans now.
