I wouldn't bet on that, but do you guys really think it would be head-scratching crazy if this team won 100 games- or very close to it? Only one White Sox team has ever won 100 games in a season, so it seems silly to predict such a thing. But if you look at this team and the guys they have and their past performance and the division they play in, I don't think Frank saying they might win 97 games is particularly outlandish. In fact, I would submit that the suggestion they will finish under .500 is far more absurd.

96-97 wins. Beat the Yankees in ALDS, A's in ALCS, Giants in the WS.

Start your parade plans now.

The only thing I see wrong here is that the Yankees won't be in the playoffs because The Satan Elf didn't address their pitching problems.

Funny, to me it peculiarly seems as if Don started determining (3pm in BF Shoutout thread)that the Sox would not be dominant this year after the Baseball Prospectus doofs announced earlier that very day that they and the Cubs would win around 80 games.

Why didn't you post this before that day, Don?

Or are you just an admitted a BP sycophant?

Personally, I think that the White Sox will do very well this year and break 90 games in the W column. Unlike the Bears, they have patched-up their problem areas - besides getting a starting catcher that runners don't salivate over, of course.

I don't read baseball prospectus. That bullshit is info-porn, I'm not into that. And for the record senator, didn't post it earlier than Tuesday because little thing called the Daytona freakin' 500 was going on last week. It occupied the majority of my free time.

Quote:

What does that even mean?? Timing a of post implies my crazed fanaticism for baseball stats? You need to reel it in a bit. You have cast clear across Dumb Post River and hit the other side of the banks.

I'll put you down in the yes column for 85+ wins.

Reasons the Sox will not win that many games:
Heard interview that Peavy is just now throwing: He should not be counted on for more than 75 innings.
The Sox didn't get better on defense. Pierre, Quentin, Konerko, and Morel at 3rd. There is one plus glove out of the four corners.
Let me say this twice. The White Sox signed Will Ohman. The White Sox signed Will Ohman, and expect him to get outs that matter. This will end badly.
One of the projected starters, besides Peavy, will get hurt. That'll leave a mark.
The schedule is not looking good to me. They will be out of it by May 20th. (At least the Bulls will still be playing :D )
The Twins, they will win the division. Also the shoulda, woulda, coulda losses to KC and the Tribe.

The Sox started last season with Randy Williams as their 2nd lefty in the pen. I will say that again. The Sox started last season with Randy Williams and his 5.40 ERA and 2.32 WHIP as their 2nd lefty in the pen. Will Ohman is a BIG upgrade.

White Sox could win 93 games with Dunn and NO RANDY WILLIAMS. 8)
BUT, if they are way in front in Early September Obama will decide he 'likes' Cominsky Field and Sox go on season ruining loosing streak.

In thoughts I don't let myself think while binging on "So Complicated" by Avril Lavigne, Jordan Danks comes out of nowhere to replace a slumping Q and in so doing fulfills the dynastic imperative of the Chicago Dankses. Or so the story is told in windworn West Texas saloons. And each time they end with, "Jordan, I miss you."--from SSSox

Come back, Dutch. Come back.
[On April 2, 1984 Reagan threw out the first pitch of the White Sox at Orioles game and then watched the game from the dugout.]

84 didn't turn out very well for the Sox...no need for Zombie Regan to throw out the first pitch.

Pfffft... talk to me when your team is so ahead of schedule that they are having player only meetings 4 games into the season. 161-1!!!

Yes. The rotation is really strong, infield defense is really good. Adam Dunn is finally in a hitters ballpark. He hit 35 to 40 in a very pitcher friendly park. The team won 88 last year and would have won the division if they started better.

You're marked down in the yes column on page one HSRage. I forsee the bullpen letting down the strong rotation and Dunn's HR's will be a lot of solo shots.

Why? The Sox got on base often last year, bringing them home was the problem. Also, the suggestion that Peavy "just started throwing" is simply not true. The guy has been rehabbing since his injury. I want to say he started throwing (albeit in rehabilitation) before the end of last season.

The bullpen is considered by many to be one of the strongest in the MLB and was so last year. What is going to cause them to be a problem? They have improved if anything.

This article doesn't have be brimming with confidence in Jake Peavy.
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/spring201 ... id=6182437

But when he arrived in San Diego in early October, he had serious concerns about impingement in his shoulder. The White Sox had gotten him to the point he was able to stretch his arms over his head, but Peavy felt a pinching pain at the end of his motion. It was a scary, unsure time.

As the months progressed, so did Peavy's rehab. He picked up a ball in December and threw for first time since his surgery. By January, he was throwing off a mound, and just before spring training he was up to 40 pitches.

It was almost eight months to the day, and in his first spring training game, against the Angels, Peavy threw 26 pitches in two hitless innings -- his fastball reached 92 mph.

Let me just say I expect Peavy to have a great 2012.

I don't expect Crain-Sale-Thronton to go swimmingly the whole season. Will Ohman?

Okay but December was 4 1/2 months ago, he didn't "just start throwing".

One month update:

April 10-19 10 GB

133 games left. Need 75 wins. 75-58 record to be exact.

Pitching:

Shit. Thorton has 4 blown saves. Will Ohman has a 8.31 ERA.

Batting:

3 starter batting under .200. Quentin and Konerko playing well. Dunn only has one appendix to lose right?

Shit, missed a few monthly updates here.

52-54 4.0 GB

56 games left. Need 33 wins. 33-23 to be exact.
Ten games over .500, that seems like a stretch. YES!

Pitching: Blame all the problems on AJ, and the White Sox are better if Don Cooper stops hanging up on phone interviews.
Santos 22 saves, Humber is tiring but still has a 3.44 ERA.

Batting: Paul Konerko will finish in the Top 5 for MVP voting. AJ hitting for average, .284. Everbody else below .270.

Yeah, everybody who said no thought pitching and defense would be the problem. Everybody who said yeah figured this was probably close to a 900 run team.

I guess thats why you play the games :(
