In my opinion, the game came down to a 2nd and 1 to go. Bears decide (for some reason) to go with the pass to pick up a yard and Rex gets sacked. I got this feeling that the game was over there. Why did Ron Turner not just run it up the gut twice to pick up the first down? grrr...

It was particularly questionable given that they had just picked up their first 1st down in 22 minutes on the prior play. I could understand going deep if your offense was rolling, but in that situation take the first down. Ooofah.

Not to sound like a Turner backer (because I'm not), but 2nd and 1 is the best time to go deep. If you have an incompletion, there's still a good shot to run it on 3rd and 1 and pick up the first down.

Why couldn't the defense stop the run?

And how long will it take Jerry Angelo to cut Tank Johnson, now that he's proved himself to be both a miscreant and bad at football?

Ron Turner has got some 'splaining to do.

Why did Benson pick the SB to have his first fumble?

Better yet, what happened to the vaunted offensive line?

Is Tommie Harris and Mike Brown that important? Rivera had months to get this right and he didn't.

Both Lovie and Rivera, 2 defense 'geniuses', had months to do this.

Which means we are only about 14 days till the Cubs report Prior has experienced some "discomfort" is his right elbow.

Benson also got hurt, but instead of subbing Adrian Peterson on occasion, they chose to wear out Jones. All their good games they rotated 2 running backs and mixed it up, but this time they got away from that. Which kills the play action pass, causing more three and outs, and more burning out defense with time on the field. And Turnoversaurus Rookie Rex.

What drove me nuts about the defensive game plan is that there were no adjustments. Rivera had the safeties so far back because he was so worried Manning was going to beat them deep. Once it started raining as hard as it was, they should have switched back to the same game plan as the New Orleans. They did exactly what Manning was hoping would happen. He said after the game that his thumb was bothering him and that he couldnt grip teh ball tight, but it didnt matter because of the rain. There was no way Manning was going to start throwing passes 40 yards down the field. That Wayne touchdown was a fluke because D. Manning decided to double cover the tight end and leave wayne all alone. Dumb. Dumb. Dumb. I honestly don't think Rivera adds anything defensively. When the Bears do good defensively, its because they have so much talent.

The defensive was on the field the whole game the offense needed to give the defense sometime to rest. The bottom line is bad rex showed up and the bears lost.

LOL, it's funny, I was thinking the exact thing a couple days ago. I thought about the Cubs, and how long it would be before we got that first Bruce Levine breaking-news report that Prior and/or Wood is experiencing discomfort ant will have to sit for a month.

When you see 6 defenders around a ball, or when you see the first guy stand the runner up and the next guy go for the ball, that is Rivera's influence. Every defense is going to have holes. To indict a coordinator because his defense with two pro-bowl starters out got picked apart by possibly the best quarterback to ever play the game is just dumb.

And, the Bears forced 3 turnovers...that should have been enough to win.

Bulldog Scott don't forget Lovie Smith was the Rams coordinator when they led the league in turnovers. The gang tackling and turnovers is a lovie influence. What do you think a Belichek would do with as much talent as the bears defense has? He's won superbowls with makeshift secondaries and backup linebackers. That being said I still think the offense deserves more blame than the defense, but I dont think if Rivera leaves it will hurt the defense.[/quote]

and Tom Brady.

I don't think Rivera should get all of the credit for the defense's success or lack there of. He does deserve SOME of that credit, of which I think he has been appropriately given. He is neither underrated or overrated; he is approriately rated as a very good coordinator with solid head coaching prospects.
