1) Is Rex Grossman the future at QB ? He's unrestricted after next season - is he the unchallenged starter next season over Brian Griese ?

2) Thomas Jones/Ced Benson - Will this duo be intact next season ? As Silverman believes, will Jones' contract be extended or will he be traded ?

3) Lance Briggs - Should the Bears franchise him ?

4) What positions are in need of an upgrade ?

Other thoughts:
- IMO, it looks as if Ian Scott and Alfonso Boone are both gone via free agency, but Dvoracek will step in next season with Tank Johnson, and hopefully a healthy Tommie Harris.
- Has Ron Rivera, for the 2nd consecutive season, cost himself a head coaching job with his playoff strategies ?
- Daniel Manning stunk. The Bears have a big hole at that spot. He's a rookie so we need to show patience, but that's a big hole. Will his struggles increase Mike Brown's chances of coming back ?
- The Oline is getting older, but we could another LB, and possibly another CB (with Vasher and Tillman heading for free agency in the near future) - do we consider line help early ?

I'm footballed out. I will think about the offseason come draft time.
This sucks.

I'm so pissed about what happened today that I need to move forward on the issues facing the Bears. I have to occupy my mind with ways to get us back to the SuperBowl...What a disaster tonight.

NO! Not to anyone with common sense.

Benson might be the one to go - foot-in-mouth, injury, attitude, etc.

No. You'll probably get a free agent in here. Not sure who is on the market, but I wouldn't break the bank for Briggs.

Head coach (I'd let Lovie go - I wouldn't pay him $4 million to put this crap on the field - Carolina last year, this was worse); coordinators, QB, RT, WR (Moose gone), CB, FS and SS.

what's the going rate to franchise an OLB? i say franchise briggs, let him prove his worth either to the Bears or the market for 08. he's capable, and i like him there over whatever replacement-level option turns up on the market or in the draft; known quantity over unknown.

i think the bears D suffers from a lack of speed, which is the only reason the cover 2 "works" for them. a quicker set of DB's would be nice, as tillman seems to get burnt by even average wideouts on a consistent basis. that said, i think rivera suffers with the hand he's been dealt in terms of injury and ability. he could go on to do great things as a head coach, given the right offensive set.

jones asserted himself as the #1 guy, but he's not getting any younger. benson's a great gut runner, but i think they're gonna need a speed guy in order to offset grossman's (or griese, or whoever else they trot out there in the future) shortcomings.

They could use a few people at safety who know how to run, pursue, tackle, blitz and cover.

3 or 4 stud O-Linemen would also help a lot.

Oh and Don Beebe.

They need to start restocking on the offensive line. In a year or two there are going to be some big holes to fill here. I say load up in the draft this year.

Briggs had the best playoffs of anyone on this defense. I would hope they franchise him and then extend him.

Jones MUST be brought back. Benson is a slow healer and who knows what the is the extent of last night's injury.

This would be the year I try to move up in the draft if I were Angelo. Laron Landry, S, LSU, would do wonders for this team.

Angelo seems to like filling in the OL with experienced players. That is an expenisve way to do things.

I believe the franchise tag for Briggs would cost the team around $7.5 million for next season.

They should have about $23 million available in free agency, but I doubt the Bears are going to sign many free agents since they have to start thinking about extensions for not only Briggs, but both Tillman, Vasher as well as possibly Tommie Harris, and dare I say, Rex Grossman (I think they wait on him).

I think it would be wise to consider drafting a tackle in the 3rd/4th round of the draft.

With the 2nd to last pick in Round 1, I would not be shocked to see Angelo do what he did last year, move down into Round 2 for an extra 2nd/3rd rounder as well.

I think the Bears need another LB with Lance Briggs future uncertain, a CB (with Tillman and Vasher both likely to make big money, and probably only one will get that here), a OT, and a WR in this deep draft for them would be nice as well. We really didn't have a #3 WR this season - Davis and Bradley may have nice futures, but Muhahamed is aging, and we need to compliment Berrian as well.

Bears needs:
1. A replacement for Mike Brown because he cannot be counted on
2. New young offensive linemen
3. Number 3 wide out, Rashied Davis is a good option at 4 not 3
4. Some how try to figure out a way to keep Ian Scott

Also remember Dusty did not play all season and the bears get Tommie Harris back

safeties. major upgrades needed there. the backups suck..and mike brown is the only starter i like, and who knows how much time before he ends up on IR again.

get rex some therapy or something to get his head out of his ass

do something with hester on offense. he's too fast to not use him on a screen, run, reverse, etc.

focus, finish,...whatever they need to do to make sure that in SB XLI or XLII its the bears bringing home the lombardi trophy

umm, yes. There were two other games in the Bears playoff season and Briggs was superior to his teammates in each of them. It was close to a month ago but think Seattle on third and short several times.

Agreed with Good Dolphin. Briggs played pretty well last night, but has been money in the playoffs.
