Usually after any major loss in chicago sports , I have a slight mourning period. The 2003 Cubs loss was brutal, took me a good week+ to even turn sports radio back on.

Today there is no way I could even think of listening to North who I am sure is explaining to me how running the ball with Thomas Jones another 10 tims would have won us the game and how Grieses would have done better.

What sucked about Rex more than anything this game is that he was not having a bad game, but this fucking snap issue. It's just such a basic thing to get down and if he can't do it, then he can't play QB.

I will mourn for 3-4 days on this one

I will avoid ESPN or any national show for the next week or so, it would be one thing if the Bears showed up to play, but the way they got beat was embarassing.

I did not watch one minute of post game yesterday. I did not see the trophy given out or the MVP named. Doug and OB helped to get me through the pain. I could listen to them for the next week. I don't know if I want to listen to any other hosts.

that's how i felt after the saints lost--it was worse since i'm living here and all i heard was the celebrations from bears fans. i had to stay away. i understand the sentiment. and after the way the bears lost, it's just something you don't want to relive and that's all the national media's going to do. i've been listening to mike & mike, and they're talking about how great peyton is and how horrible grossman is and overdramatizing everything. so i had to turn it off just for that...plus they're having salisbury on soon...ugh.

i can't even think about baseball now because it's so effin cold out

The mere thought of Salisbury "breaking it down" makes me angry.

I took this one a little hard. I had such a high coming off the Saints game (maybe it was all the RedBull) but they shut down the #1 offense in the NFL that day and i figured they could do the same to the Colts.

I had about 40 people at Slappyland for the Superbowl and when Hester took the opening kickoff to the house my place went up for grabs. As the game went on people were ready to burn my house down and mother fucking Rex all night .

I 've spent the last 21 weeks investing my time in the Bears and for it to end like this is a little disappointing. Just getting to the Superbowl is not enough and I kept telling myself that all week and when it came time to come to grips with the loss it hurt .

I watched a shitload of coverage last night and some sports radio today. I just wanted to soak it all in becuase it might be another 21 years before we get there again .

I'm ready for the White Sox saga to begin .

I think today may have been the first day in 10 years that I was in the Chicago area and did not tune into sportsradio for more than 10 minutes. Appearently there are these stations that play music and instead of employing ex-jocks and sports geeks they employ those guys in high schol that always talked about how many girls they got but never actually got girls. I am sure I will be back to sportsradio by Thursday.

Ya, that cubs 03 loss was 10x worse. This one was easier to take since we got beat by a better team and our qb is know a known fact loser. That snap thing just kills me. It's like he wasn't even trying.


Its been a very long time since the bears lost a football game with the title on the line (SB, NFC CHamp Game pre superbowl era). So that is the only werid feeling I am getting now. Also, our teams haven't lost a SB, WS, NBA Championship in a long time when we were in it.

Living outside of Chicago makes it worse I guess. I still have bears stuff on my car and today people were saying to me it's good that your a loyal fan etc.. BUt you can tell in their eyes their like your team sucked. If the offense played with some heart, and we still lose, at least they wouldn't say it like that.

Again, its not as bad as cubs 03. I remember after that loss, I wore a cubs hat the next day just to keep the faith. Everyone who saw me in it gave a little snicker , like it was a joke or something. That C on that hat might as well have been a big L for LOSER after that 03 collapse.

Better lineup, better pen, even the pitching was better. Cub fans act like that team was the 27 yanks. That team was lucky to even make the playoffs. I agree, the bears could have won this game. The Colts would win 7 of 10 games but the Bears should have won yesterday.

As far as your Cub thoughts:

1) Yes the Marlins were the better team, but the Cubs choked and lost a series they should have won. That's what makes it so depressing. I am still not over 1984 where just the opposite happened. The Cubs were better than the Padres that season.

To me the Cubs loss in 2003 was much worse. The Colts clearly outplayed the Bears from the 2nd quarter on in all phases of the game. The Bears didn't choke, they just got beat by a better team.

The Cubs and Marlins were evenly matched and the Cubs were so close to winning I could taste it. I never got that feeling from the Bears Sunday.

Not really. They were kicking ass and taking names down the stretch. In baseball, the thing is to be hot at the right time; and the Cubs were, in a big way. Prior was fantastic that year, and even Wood was on track for once.


You don't understand because you're not a fan. Imagine if the Bears had a 40-10 lead over the Saints in the early 4th quarter, and you began your "Bears are going to the Superbowl" celebration, and then suddenly, with no warning, the wheels completely fell off the wagon and the Bears lost. It wasn't a mere choke, it was a freak occurrence.

I don't think there is a question in too many Cubs fans' minds about which loss was worse. The Bears certainly played like shit, which is tough, but it wasn't like '03 where you had what you thought was sure victory ripped from you in the most humiliating fashion imaginable.

As a sox fan i can see why this bears loss doesn't seem as devastating. The cubs loss has had more time to linger with you since they haven't made it back to the playoffs since 03. Now if the bears don't make it back to the superbowl in the next few years, I will look back at this Bears era with much disapointment due to the fact that they will have waisted many a good defenses.

'84 was even worse because, as Reason said, the Cubs were better than the Padres.

The Bears were a good team this year but almost no one outside of Chicago gave them a chance in the Super Bowl and they lost as predicted. It's not the same.

The cubs in 84 had to win a road game out of three to clinch the series.

The 2003 cubs had to win one game out of three to clinch the series with the last two played at Wrigley.

Plus the Cubs had their two aces starting games six and seven while the Marlins used their ace in game 5.

Anytime I feel down in my sports world, I throw on game 2 of the '05 world series

I meant worse for me from an emotional standpoint. The Cubs had the best record in the NL and had destroyed the Padres in games 1 and 2. There was seemingly no way they wouldn't close that deal.

I'm really not up for a discussion on which choke job had the highest degree of difficulty but '84 was harder on me. '03 was more of a devastation/disbelief that it could happen again. I'll grant you '03 was a "bigger choke" if that is your belief.

Understood, I was only twelve in 1984 so 2003 was harder for me. It seems like each generation of Cub fans has their "team" '69 Cubs, '84 Cubs or '03 Cubs.

I don't care either way if Rivera leaves or not, but maybe its a sign that Rivera's flight to Dallas is grounded due to snow.

I think it was my wide-eyed naivety that made it hurt worse as I'd only been following the team for 6 or 7 years. I was much more cynical in '03 and, in the back of my mind, prepared for the team to "Cub it up".

heh, i was 12 that same year. You got to remember, that 1984 season for the cubs was a magical year. for a 12 year old, it was one of my greastest summers as a youth. the cubs came out of nowhere that year and surprised everyone. Talk about the height of cubs fever in the city, 1984 was it. How perfect, we battled the mets for the division, day games at wrigley, killed the ghost of 69, and hey, Harry Carey at his prime. I went to 2 games that year, one where sandberg hit that hr off the dodgers before the all star break in the bot 9th, and the unreal game vs Montreal where they got that double play off lee smiths knee, to the SS owen, and out at 2nd. Pete Rose was the one who hit that ball if you remember! I remember wearing my Blue Road cubs jersey and my White homes whenever they were on tv. My mom probably washed those things a million times. Remember that Grand Slam by Jody Davis vs the mets. I remember the Mets beat us the first game in NY, and I was so down since my dad was saying how 'its the same old cubs'. But then we took like the next 12 from them. Lived and died with the cubs that year.

(Side Note : One thing I dont like about Murph is he puts down that 84 team since people compare it with 69. I like Murph, but F U to him, it's not my fault he was a old man when 84 came around. to my generation, 84 was our 69 comapred to our fathers generation).

The only time I actually cried for a sports team was that 84 cubs team when they blew the pennant that year. The only other time I will cry for a sports team will be if ever... the cubs win the NL pennant. Not the World Series, but the pennant. I'll actually celebreate a WS win.


But yes, that was the biggest heartbreaking thing in my life, the 84 cubs. I can remember being in school after they went up 2 games, and a cubs pennant fell in the classroom out of the blue. the teacher said to us that she hoped it wasnt a bad omen. I guess it was.
