Why no C-Web?

Really enjoying this thing. Man I hated those teams back in the day. But they sure were good. Watching all of this makes me miss those days of college basketball and makes me even more "meh" about this years tourney.

ESPN is awesome at making things from the past seem more important and dramatic than they were.

This was really well done.


I remember watching the timeout game as a kid. I was rooting for UNC but that was messed up. Felt bad for him even as a kid.


How bout the kid motioning for the timeout when Web was in the backcourt and the dude who applauded the timeout? I like the monontone voiceover guys description of that.

This was an enjoyable documentary. I'll always remember that time out game as I was
at a kid from high school's house party. I fell into the Michigan love after the UNLV hype
was wrapping up. Was fun reliving the games and hard to believe it was essentially 20
years ago. The UNLV and Michigan squads really did change the college basketball
landscapes for good.

One of my all time favorite teams. I hated Duke and UNC since they were Americas sweethearts and Michigan was always the hated ones. I loved the trashtalk and swag they played with and I think most of us in the hood were able to relate to them more. Jalen Rose was that dude.

I really don't think Webber wanted to answer any of those questions about the past and what he got and what he didn't. He was probably smart in thinking that way. I thought it was a awesome show, and I surprised at how honest all of the players were. Definitely worth watching if you missed it.

Weren't Webber's parents teachers and didn't he go to Detoit's version of North Shore Country Day and didn't he play for a school that is almost as difficult to get into for an out of stater as an Ivy League school?

if i remember correctly, webbers old man got the vanity plates TIMEOUT or something like that after the UNC game.

They showed an interview with him that must have been from high school where he sounded extremely articulate and grounded. It would have been pretty cool if they had recent interviews with him to contrast with Rose's "Duke only accepted uncle Toms" venom, especially with Rose commenting how Weber wanted to act inner-city but just didn't have it in him.

Did you know that not only did Michigan fail to win the NCAA tournament but they also failed to win the Big Ten conference in either year? You would think that a supposed "great team" would have found a way to get some type of hardware.

A Good documentary? No.
I can't imagine telling this story without Webber. All they interviewed were Michigan players/coaches/sycophants and celebrities who loved the team. I wanted Laettner or Hill or any opponent to talk about the team and playing against them (and maybe show a national title ring).

Failing to win a national championship isn't fatal. Lots of great teams didn't. But those teams couldn't even manage to win a Big Ten Championship. They weren't even the best team during that stretch to lose two championship games; that would be the Houston Phi Slama Jama teams with Olajuwan and Drexler. They weren't the best Michigan teams; the 1989 team won the national championship, after all. They didn't "originate" any of the bad ass stuff; a lot of that came from the pros and UNLV. They didn't establish a program; instead, they left a trail of destruction, to the point that Michigan basketball has been nothing but an afterthought for fifteen years following their escape to the pros. They also benefited from some weakened brackets--the two seed in their region in 1993 was the Arizona team that lost to 15-seed Santa Clara.

It's nice that Mitch Albom really liked them and thinks Chris Webber was totally on the up-and-up until after the Final Four. Mitch Albom also attends fake basketball games and communicates with souls on the Elysian Fields. Back here on Planet Earth, I'm not sure how much there is to celebrate there, besides from "they wore black socks." A more honest director would have explored some of that, but then again, consider the source.

Remember, they were playing in the truer form of the NCAA tournament. Also, they accomplished back-to-back title-game appearances as freshmen and sophomores.
Houston?? Didn't make the championship in 1982, and the 1984 squad was sans Drexler.
Please give me an example of a youthful team like this that appeared in consecutive championship games.
