Now I know that we do not know the full extent of his injury yet, but does anyone else get the feeling that he probably could have played, but chose not to?

It's the f'ing Superbowl! Unless your leg is turned all the way around and winds up in the wrong direction, you play through the pain. JD said he was walking around the locker room just fine. Benson himself supposedly said it didn't hurt too bad and that it was no big deal.

Now I'm certainly not wishing a bad injury on him, but if it does turn out to be "no big deal" then I have a major problem with him.

I think he was probably more pissed that he fumbled that ball. I think after that he didnt want to go out there.

I've been a Benson guy all year, but I have to admit that my faith in him has been shaken. I used to think he had star potential, but now I'm no longer sure. While he runs harder than Jones, he doesn't have the burst or moves of an elite back. And he continues to be a pain in the a*s, like he wants to attract attention by saying the wrong things at the wrong time. He seems like he's the kind of guy who loves drama, but who doesn't have the talent to make him worth the trouble. Could be another bad first round pick from Angelo.

The way he runs troubles me too. As TM said he doesn't make people miss and while I enjoy the fact that he will run over people, Benson does take a lot of punishment. Can he stand the rigors of a 16 game season? He missed time last year during the season and this years training camp due to injury. I don't see how he can last thru a full season.

He could still be either Curtis Ennis or Earl Campbell.

As far as the injury goes, if theres any kind of uncertainty whatsoever, Im guessing the money and legal 3-piece-suit guys on the team held him back.
Something like the Bulls and Eddie Currie's off beat heart. No player with that ego could possibly be happy with just 2 carries and a fumble in the Super Bowl.

It was the Superbowl. Even though there's a good chance the Cedric Benson is insane, he's not stupid enough to sit out the biggest game of his life if he has a little owie. That game could have been a HUGE money maker for him if he runs wild. He would have been out there if he could play.

Benson is an still an unknow and does run with a punnishing style, but Earl Campbell breaking past the line of scrimage was the scariest man to alive to a DB or even most LB's of his era. He was the epitome of a sledgehammer back.

Earl Campbell ran the ball like a MoFo...one of my all-time favorite players. As much punishment as he dished out, he received. Poor guy is paying for it now...his body and mind are both shot.

Will Cedric Benson be prepared to make the same sacrifices?
