This is great timing for Purdue.

This could be it for him. There have been rumors of past issues too.

He had explosive talent but he has never really gotten it together in his head. He also has done some things on the court and in the media that has not made Painter happy.

He's been really bad for the past few weeks and unlike the Hummel injury he's simply a role player so this shouldn't be devastating but he was the backup point guard and the best perimeter defender.

Rumors go from showing up with alcohol on his breath and hungover(probable) to punching Ryne Smith in the face and putting him in the hospital(doubtful).

If he is off the team for good Purdue has a great shot at a few top 100 players in the 2012 recruiting class to fill his spot.

Rumor is that he failed a drug test.

Three of them in fact.

My guess is that he is on his way out. These things never work out well.

The newest rumor is that Barlow showed up drunk to practice, and was confronted by Ryne Smith about it, who then got hit over the head by a ball rack.

As always, that's just a rumor but Smith has shown up on the injury report with a concussion.

This is not a good situation.

I'm glad Painter had the balls to get rid of him. Most coaches wouldn't make this move right before the tournament.

This was ultimately the teams undoing. It's not like Barlow was such a great player that they couldn't win without him, but after the loss of Hummel, and even an injury to role player John Hart that limited his effectiveness, they just couldn't afford another player being gone. They got beat by a better and deeper team yesterday and looked bad doing it. With Barlow, the defensive effort would have been much better and the game would have been much closer. He would have stopped the dribble penetration that was unstoppable yesterday.

Another disappointing season filled with bad luck and unmet expectations. They'll be a borderline top 25 team next year unless Hummel returns at full strength and then things get better in recruiting the few years after that.

I expected more out of the Hummel/Johnson/Moore class after their freshman year but it's tough to get too down about it when they lost the most important player of those three for two years in a row.

Purdue acted as if they never saw a 2 man game before. Horrible. Barlow would not have made a difference.

Where the fuck was Etwann?? Vanished in the biggest game of his career.

This is where I disagree. He would have been our best chance at stopping dribble penetration. Lewis Jackson certainly couldn't.

The team just looked worn out. I don't care if they are playing the college all-star team, they shouldn't give up nearly 100 points if they are a defensive team.

Kelsey Barlow was kicked off the team today. I assume it is for good.

DJ Byrd was suspended for this weekends game vs. MSU after getting a public intoxication arrest after there was an incident at a local Purdue bar. From the sounds of it, there wasn't any fighting or anything but Barlow was kicked out of the bar and then went back in to get his wallet and something happened.

is that one of the guys that was getting into it with Drew Crawford (choir boy) at the NU vs. Purdue which eventually got Crawford kicked out of the game?

Yes. DJ Byrd was the one who attempted to draw a charge on the second technical too. He was suspended a game for getting a public intoxication while being involved in whatever got Barlow kicked off.
