How can you be sure of that? If Painter is really gone, it don't seem like he is convinced of that either. If he was and Purdue offered him that money then why would he be leaving the school that has been the focus of a good deal of his life?

I assume that the athletic department is going to rectify the issues that caused one of the biggest blunders they have ever had. I'll be very surprised if the athletic director makes it more than a year from now. The pressure is going to be insane on them now. The whole department is fighting for their jobs.

The major thing at play here seems to be that the athletic director and Painter did not get along. The damage was already done. The new guy will not have similar feelings. One thing that is interesting is that Painter was actually chosen mostly by Keady when the succession plan happened. One could argue that the AD and Painter may have gotten off on the wrong foot from the start. I'm sure he will be able to convince the new coach that things weren't as they seemed and the issues have been dealt with that were bad.

Didn't Martin just take the Tennessee job, I can't see him backing out that quick. I would laugh my ass off if he did though, I hate Tennessee.

I could see Ernie Kent being on the list. Steve Fisher, too?

It will be someone you have never heard of. They'll do it on the cheap to put more pressure on boosters to pony up.

I think the AD has one more football coach hire then he's in trouble.

The man reporting Painter to Mizzou is done is a good reporter. So is the man who is reporting it's not. That's how this story is gonna go.

He kind of claims them because he went to a regional campus.

I do think Gloop is wrong. It will be at least someone equal to Weber. The backlash to this will be intense if it's not. It may be anyways unless it's Stevens.

Mac went to Testicle Tech (Ball State)

If you are Weber, why would you go to Purdue if they are cheap on assistants....yada yada yada If you are Purdue, why pony up to Weber?

I believe that Missouri was paying less for coaches than Purdue was before they lost him to Arkansas. Pay scales can changes. Sometimes it takes something like this happening to make changes.

This would be a good hire if they could get him. Stallilngs was coach at Illinois State
when I went there and he had some really good teams in the late 90s. I think he does
a nice job at Vandy but they don't seem to go anywhere in the post season.

Just look at the last football hire.

Who heard of Danny Hope before Purdue hired him?

I would be shocked if they hired anyone mentioned here.

They were hamstrung by Tiller not wanting to retire and them not wanting to fire him. Danny Hope was sadly the best option. There was no Matt Painter type coach available. The closest was Kevin Sumlin but he really had no reason to sit in waiting for a year since he was doing well already.

They haven't made a fresh hire for a major sport since the mid 90s when they hired Tiller and with how bad they screwed this up they have to send a strong message.

I hope you are right. But look where the signs point. If the school is taking 2.5 mil off the top of the BTN revenue, If Tiller had trouble getting assistants paid, If there are empty seats at football games, If they criticize the boosters for not paying up.....that all points to going on the cheap. Painter was on the cheap.....Hope was on the cheap.....

I agree with what you said. I just hope this is a reason to make the needed changes. If not, and we end up with some cheap coach then I'm done until a new AD is around. I'll still watch and hope they win but there is no reason to care if they don't.

This is the craziest thing I've ever seen. Missouri media already has Painter throwing out the first pitch at the Cardinals game in a week long celebration of Missouri getting Painter and now others are saying he's staying.

Yeah it really is crazy. I just heard a guy from Columbia MO interviewed on a KC radio station say he was 110% sure this was a done deal.

If it turns out that Painter does stay with Purdue fans of Mizzou are going to be ready to kill the AD of Mizzou.

The radio station I am listening to out of KC is getting ready to interview Brendan Murphy from WL.

The Score reported it was a "done deal" today too. Never, ever trust news broken by sports radio. They have a lower batting average that Ugie does on douchebag of the week threads.

This is an awful lot of commotion for the third or fourth best coach in the Big Ten.

It's a big deal because of the chance they would be taking the eighth or ninth best coach from another Big Ten school to replace him.

Don't think Tubby is available.

Painter isn't Izzo or Matta. He's arguably done as much as Bo Ryan with more talent. If someone offered me either Matt Painter or a spin on the Coaching Roulette Wheel, I'd take Matt Painter. But he also just took two All-American players to the round of 32. We're not talking about Coach K here.

The Score was repeating a report from the St. Louis Dispatch, not another sports radio station.

Don't trust newspapers either. They have a really shitty batting average as well on this stuff.
