I agree, but I also understand why it's different than the NBA. The National and American Leagues were separate entities and celebrated their speciic and different identities for many, many years. Baseball is a sport that honors and clings to tradition more than any other. The younger guys here probably can't recall when the leagues featured different strikezones largely by virtue of the radically different chest protectors worn by their respective umpires.

However, since the advent of interleague play the lines between the leagues have become increasingly blurry. The umpires work in both leagues, the teams face each other in regular season play, etc., etc. That being the case, there is NO reason that the rules should not be uniform.
