I thought Peavy told him he should be good to go out there the next day?

This is the result of AJ's influence on the team and his lack of respect for the medical staff.

Yeah, sports trainers should be able to diagnose appendicitis. Maybe Herm can learn how to diagnose a stroke, or an aneurysm!

Franklin, I bet Herm could x-ray your head and not find anything.

Yes. They know absolutely nothing. They have no educational background in anything. They are not part of the chain of command of the medical staff. They never do preliminary evaluations and never refer anything to the organization's staff of doctors or the ER if need be. They simply hold towels, dispense salt and only respond to the name Doc.

Well as far as I know, trainers don't do these in the locker room: ultrasounds, xrays, blood tests, CT scans, barium tests, or a urine test...which after a physical exam is how appendicitis is diagnosed.

Once again,

Well you are making it sound like they rub liquid heat on elbows and tape an ankle and serve no other purpose. They are generally the first person the player will see and report the symptoms to. They will then most likely do a quick physical/verbal question evaluation and contact the appropriate physician and coordinate with them on getting further testing or they will send them immediately to the ER. So while they don't conduct the above mentioned tests, they are part of the evaluation process in the early stages.

Herm is not going to diagnose anything nor is he going to conduct that testing, but he will do a preliminary evaluation, identify symptoms and red flags and then make the decision to send said athlete to the physician. He is an important part of the process in the evaluation of any medical issues.

Herm is the equivalent of a physical therapist or kineseologist. He has expertise in the muscles and joints. He doesn't and wouldn't be expected to know anything about the causes and symptoms of appendicitis.

He's not just rubbing dirt on sore muscles. I'm sure he knows where the appendix is, and if a player came to him and said he had pain in that area, he would be able to diagnose it. Is it really that difficult?

A physical therapist does more than rub dirt on sore muscles but it certainly does not make him an internist. I've stuck a finger up an ass or two in my day but that does not make me a proctologist.

Is it really that difficult? Well, yes it is. Someone coming in and complaining of intense abdominal pain could be suffering from a number of things.

Couldn't he at least be able to say, "You should go Dr. "So and So" and get that checked out".?

This conversation is useless. Everyone is apparently an expert without any working knowledge of what an A.T.C. does. Continue believe whatever the fuck you want.
